On the topic of Leitrim you have to feel sorry for there players on the panel as it doesn't look good on the ones which have stayed
I understand people have a life and it an amateur game but will this set a precedent
Because they can't be the only county in that situation.

Really good showing from Clare tonight, just finishing off my reports here in Portlaoise. Scored the last six points in a row to win by four, but Laois got the rub of the green throughout the game, I would say that Clare were seven or eight points the better team over the course of the contest.

In terms of getting promotion locked down, I felt at the start of the week that our best chance is tomorrow, and I'm doubly sure of that now. That's not to say we can't win in Ennis, but with a home crowd, I'd say Kildare is the one that we have the better chance to win.

We’ve been knocking on that door for a win v Kildare for awhile now and you’d feel this is the perfect opportunity new rules some new recruits new managers

Never forget being in the Upper Cusack when Padraig Kelly had the chance to win with the last kick of the game, we were all sure it was over but tailed off.

Ok so here’s the updated fixtures.

To gain promotion;
1)Beat Kildare, lose to Clare. Worst case scenario, we lose to Clare and Kildare beat Antrim. We are all on 10 points, but our points difference to Clare should have us promoted.

2) Lose to Kildare, beat Clare. Simply we are promoted. Clare end up on 8 points. Fermanagh possibly on 9, we are on 10.

3) Draw both games. We are on 10, Clare on 9. We are promoted.

4) Win both games and have a party.

To miss out on promotion;
1) Beat Kildare by 1 point. Lose to Clare by 9 points (going off current points difference, possibly 13 points if Leitrim score difference is removed)

2)Lose to Kildare, draw with Clare, Fermanagh beat Laois while overturning a 45 points difference. Fermanagh, Clare and ourselves level on 9.

3) Lose both games and go home from Ennis in silence.


There’s a few other possibilities if we drew with Kildare and lost to Clare. Depends on Kildare vs Antrim, and points difference with Fermanagh, head-to-head with Fermanagh etc.

Simply: 2 points will more than likely promote us due to our superior score difference. Anything less than that and we are really looking closely at score difference.

Anything more than 2 points and we are 100% promoted.

So scenarios of being level on 10 points with Kildare, Clare would have us promoted unless Clare overturn a major points difference. That’s by beating Kildare and losing to Clare.

But wouldn't it hypothetically be the score difference in just the games between the 3 teams tied on points - in which case, we have no idea at this point how that points difference would play out?

On fair enough, I wasn’t aware of that. I suppose we simply just need to treat the next 2 weeks as a 3 way play-off series. Worry about ourselves and nobody else. Even simply just beating Clare does it for us. We made huge mistakes last year against Clare so surely we’d exercise those demons in Ennis no matter what.

Clare on 8 pts, are not going to roll over in their next match v Offaly, they will be looking for the win. Offaly have their future in their own hands, they need to win both games, ideally. Beating Kildare would be a good start, before heading to Ennis in the final game.

Can I ask the question…do people think that promotion would help this current crop of players? Like Division 2 has been pretty soul destroying for Westmeath and they were considerably better than us over the past few years, just wondering if trying to get a young panel of players together in a Divison that’s going to have Derry and either Armagh or Tyrone in there is going to help develop these players as I don’t see us competing at all with any of those teams really.
I’m delighted that we’re in the mix for promotion, I’ll be honest I didn’t expect us to at the start of the year, but I’d love to know what people who know this panel alot better than I do whether we’d be on a binding to nothing next year and it feel like a waste of a year.

In 2022 when we were previously in D2 we didn’t embarrass ourselves. Good win over Down, should have beat Meath and aside from a bad goalkeeping mistake and referee performance, we would’ve beaten Cork and survived. Only lost to All Ireland Runners Up Galway by 4 points in Salthill. Yes lost well to Derry, Clare, Roscommon, but we weren’t a disaster.

We’ve a young team and many have won an All Ireland U20. There’s a bit of confidence there. Playing better teams won’t always be pleasant, we will ship a few beatings, but it won’t be like 2017 when Armagh beat us by 30 points. We will learn from these teams.

Gives us a better chance of playing Sam Maguire and to even have a crack at a bigger team in Tullamore would be amazing for the county. We aren’t a team at the end of our life. There’s potential to develop with a team this young and all we want as supporters is progress. D2 is progress no matter how it goes.

What a win! The best performance since we beat Meath in the Championship two years ago.

Genuinely interested to hear now from all the doom merchants who, before the league, gave the impression that Offaly would be lucky to have 15 togged such was the malcontent in camp. As usual, rubbish talk.

As far as I can see we’ll be promoted unless we lose to Clare by 11 points?
