So what's happening with the football relegation saga then?
Anyone with any updates?
I'm presuming it's in the middle of a DRA style appeals mire, but it's tough on Doon and Edenderry that have to keep in training not knowing when the game will happen. Also Shannonbridge could in theory have to play again, though they don't even know that for sure.
Any info out there?

Just heard that the County Board are appealing the Leinster Councils decision to let the Shannobridge v Doon result stand.
They are taking it to Croke Park. This one is hotting up nicely.
Was chatting a few lads involved in the 3 clubs over the weekend and none of the teams are training at all.
And could you blame them???
This has dragged on too long now.

Relegation saga...
Not sure if the county board are actually appealing the Leinster councils decision, that was supposed to be decided last night. This is starting to turn farcical now at this stage.
I know first hand that the bridge are no longer training & that interest is completely lost and who would blame them.
Doon are only training one night a week with interest there fast waning too and not sure what Edenderry's stance is.
If the Leinster councils decision stands, which it probably will, why would Edenderry bother their holes playing Doon with nothin but pride at stake?
What will probably happen is a once off playoff between Doon and Shannonbridge with a winner takes all kind of thing!
And god only knows when that match would take place.....

I'd call the whole affair anything but nice. Incidentally, if the facts of the case are that Shannonbridge had 16 men on the field for a while, how is there even a contest, irrespective of whether the offence was inadvertent or not? The rules might be harsh (matter of opinion) but they are there nonetheless. I'm surprised at the Leinster verdict.MF35 wrote:This one is hotting up nicely.
I'm guessing it was probably a Shannonbridge appeal rather than an Edenderry one to the initial awarding of the game to Doon, however more enlightened souls like Hocker or True red would probably be able to confirm/deny this.
I'm amazed at Doon not training. They are the only club in all this who are guaranteed to have another important match to play, and the only club who either way will have their fate in their own hands. I can understand there not being much appetite for it, but for feck sake it took them long enough to break out of intermediate before, it makes no sense to not pull out all the stops looking to get out of this little mess. By the sounds of things they have the chance to be a lot sharper than whoever they end up meeting, be it the Reds or the Bridge.
1.County board acted on referee's report on the playing of 16 men by Shannonbridge against Doon.County Board found Shannonbridge guilty and awarded game to Doon.
2.Shannonbridge appealed this decision to the Leinster council.Leinster Council found in favour of Shannonbridge.Where this will lead us to is now up to the County Board.
3.Edenderry,been the 3rd party in the whole affair, have no recourse for appeal.

It was decided at last nights meeting that the county board are appealing to Croke Park the leinster Councils decision to let the result from the drawn game stand.
I think this is correct as if the decision by the bridge to play the 16th man for the last 5 minutes is ignored now, there is nothing to stop it happening again in future games.
Also, i cant imagine any members of the county board being too pleased with SB for going to the LC to get the Co. Board decision overturned. Doesnt look good in their behalf.

Don't know, but it raises another question - we are relegating two and promoting one/none respectively in our football and hurling championships - does this mean that the same is happening at the other end of the intermediate championships to keep the numbers the same, or is it that there will be extra teams playing intermediate in both codes next year?As Such Ger wrote:who else got relegated in the different grades in both codes?
InterM/Jun Football
Senior/InterM/Jun hurling
There would be those who would argue that if he had been on the field for five minutes and not touched the ball it would have made a lot less difference than if he was on the field for sixty seconds but ended up playing a ball forward into the Shannonbridge attack.Hocker wrote:MF35 wrote:I think this is correct as if the decision by the bridge to play the 16th man for the last 5 minutes is ignored now, there is nothing to stop it happening again in future games.

However all this is moot, because the rules don't say anything about whether the player or the sideline is responsible, or whether it's deliberate or not, or indeed for how long the player has to be on the field. They merely state the offence and the sanction - and with that in mind, I don't see how the Leinster Council found grounds to overturn the ruling.
