The following is the latest suggestion about the NFL format for next year. Back to 4 divisions of 8, 1,2,3 and 4. No more 1A and 1B etc. This means our relegation from division 1 last year actually sees us in Division 3 next year.
It's far from an easy division, and in fairness all 4 divisions, with the possible exception of Division 4 where Longford and Sligo are clear favourites, look very competitive. Certainly we will get it tough to get promoted from Division 3 unless we have our heads screwed on.
Division 1:
Kerry
Galway
Mayo
Laois
Tyrone
Derry
Down
Dublin
Division 2:
Kildare
Armagh
Cork
Fermanagh
Louth
Donegal
Limerick
Westmeath
Division 3:
Meath
Offaly
Monaghan
Wexford
Roscommon
Cavan
Tipperary
Leitrim
Division 4:
Longford
Sligo
Clare
Antrim
Carlow
Waterford
Wicklow
London

If they are going to revert to a straight 4 divisions and I think they should, then it should be announced now that it will happen in 2008.
Then teams go into the 2007 league knowing exactly what is at stake.
To decide now to introduce this format is just another indication of the GAA's "sure the league doesn't matter" attitude.
That said, there are seven teams in higher divisions than Offaly, who I would rank behind at this point in time. I think div 2 is probably Offal'y rightful home at the minute.
I also agree that finishing in the top two would be no easy feat in div 3.

I dunno - there would be seven teams in that group that would all entertain notions of getting promoted. I accept that there's no one team we'd be afraid of, but even so there aren't too many teams we'd be shorter than 4/6 to beat on a neutral venue either.
In saying that, I think it'd be a great group for us. Winnable games, competitive ties, and a good grounding for the championship, without the same potential for demoralising at the hands of Tyrone or Kerry.
