Fantastic to see 6 Offaly Olympians in Paris.

Shane Lowry’s GAA heritage is well known, but have any of the other athletes got GAA tradition behind them?

Jordan Conroy and Megan Burns both from Tullamore and both competing in rugby sevens.

Darragh Kenny from Belmont (I think) and competing in equestrian.

Grainne Walsh in the boxing ring is from Durrow direction I think and played underage soccer for Ireland.

Megan Armitage is from Shinrone and competes in cycling.

Good luck to all 🇮🇪

When RTE did their breakdown there was 5 from Offaly, but Darragh Kenny was added after to make it 6.
By that list, per capita, Offaly has the highest number of Olympians per county.

Ironically, I've encountered people from other counties, seething at Offaly's GAA success and trying to attribute it to a mono-sporting culture where GAA is the only show in town.

Has an offaly person ever won an olympic medal for Ireland. As far as I know we have some paralympic medalists but as far i know the only person to win a medal was polo player john lloyd winning silver with Great Britain
