Ten grand on an intermediate county team would do a lot. it would develop a lot of players, improve senior and inter club hurling and the seniors can pick the best lads or send back some of their lads for extra matches. Budget 6000 trainer. 3000 physio 1000 gear. Train once per week till may and twice per week till september. Manager doesn't have to be the special one and expertise from senior set up could be shared

I said on another thread that we start with an Under 13 Development Squad and we need 6 top class coaches to start with them in , say January 2015 and bring them all the way to Under 21.............

and do the same every year, so over 9 years, over 50 coaches needed....................... Who are the volunteers ???????????????????????

The 45K would buy some of the equipment, sliotars, jerseys, tracksuits so expences would be unlikely for the 50....................

This is what Dublin , Laois etc have been doing for the last 5 or more years.......................

We have to do it or face years of beatings like yesterdays, at best & Christy Ring & Division 2 or 3 at worst.................

The answer to what we should do. Is probably what kk would do if a catastrophy hit the county and wiped out their best talent to extent that they lost to offaly by 25 pts. They would start again they would get underage going again. They would go to the next cb meeting shake things up, make a few plans and commit to them. The 12week august sept oct fitness program by cf is a good idea. Fitness is the simplest thing to get right. Talent skills culture takes longer.

I don't know where to put this piece, maybe this thread is the most relevant location for it. Discuss.

I have been involved with football squads before, and always at this time of year there would naturally be a drop-off in numbers because of the Junior Cert. What we did was take a two week break for the duration of the exams, and before that group up with the u15s for a week or two, because the Junior Cert would apply to a certain number of their players too.

Exams and other commitments aside, the number seems low. But you can’t judge on a one-off occasion.
Even reading the article, you can see the difficulty we are in. We can’t even seem to agree on what the problems are.
