Clash of the Ash, is this the end?

Post by KillougheyGoBragh »

Don't know if this is an issue yet in Ireland but here in the UK there is a serious outbreak of the Chalara dieback disease.
This disease attacks Ash trees and is being attributed to the importation of young Ash tree saplings from the continent where the disease was first discovered in Poland as long ago as 1992.
There is a bleak outlook on for all UK Ash Trees and with this disease spreading at roughly 30km/year how long will it be before Irish trees are treatened?
Could this mean the end of our beloved Caman as we know it?

Starting to see more and more kids with the fiberglass hurls. They are the future and if they like them as kids they'll play with them as adults. They don't break and in the current financial climate it will make sense for a father with a few kids. One 28" will do the whole family, as will the 30", 32" and so on.

they don't last that long
And I'm not a huge fan of kids using them - parents usually buy one that is too big and let the child 'grow into it'
only the best...

But that's a different issue though. That's like buying a child a pair of boots two sizes too big and then blaming Puma or Nike for making ill-fitting footware.

true

but an oversized hurley is a huge issue
at least if the child has a timber hurley you just take it off him and give him a smaller one from the club
only the best...

Surely you could do the same here - i.e. give him a smaller hurl from the club for training in the short term, and get the message sent home that he needs a smaller hurl?

I can't imagine parents would be any more annoyed at that than the idea that you've swapped hurls and given him one that he'll grow out of in a year?

Yeah, but once mammy has bought them the carbon-fibre hurley, its very hard to get them to go back to the timber
