o byrne cup / walsh cup

Post by kingscounty »

I see the o byrne cup is on a league basis next year, Offaly / Laois/Westmeath/ AIT all in the one group with Offaly playing Laois first in tullamore on Jan 6th . Hurlers play Wexford or DIT in Walsh Cup on Jan 20th, should be interesting to see how mcdonnell gets on in his first year with the footballers and if baker has shook things up going into his second year.

O'Byrne Cup fixtures:

6th Jan vs Laois (OCP)
9th Jan vs AIT (Gracefield)
13th Jan vs Westmeath (Dunnes Stores overflow park)

I remain of the belief that in January these games are of limited value, but having said that, I like that they've regionalised it, for both supporters and players. Offaly vs Laois or Offaly vs Westmeath will always draw a middling crowd, no matter how bad the counties are going. Offaly vs Wexford or Louth, even though the quality of the game might be just as good, is not nearly as good for supporters.

This is the place to try out night-time fixtures too - not in the Leinster championship. Admittedly AIT tend to be poor enough in this and wouldn't draw a crowd the same way a game against Laois or Westmeath would.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Ah I wouldnt be too sure about AIT not being able to draw a crowd, Lone Shark.
LSU & Alabama drew a crowd of over 93,000 last Saturday night.
The Sigerson Cup would surely be comparable to this, dont you think?
Although, admittedly, the O'Byrne cup may not be as much of a crowd puller.

O'Brien Park would be a fine venue for a Tailgate party too!

A whole heap of homos jumping on top of each and feeling each other up while pronouncing the word "route" incorrectly. Seems fairly faggy to me either way
