Offaly's Niall McNamee gets out in front of Kieran Duffy (Monaghan) during the All-Ireland SFC Qualifier at Tullamore ©INPHO/James CrombieOffaly's new football manager Gerry Cooney is confident that star forward Niall McNamee will reverse his decision to quit inter-county football.
The Rhode clubman withdrew his services in frustration at the delay in appointing Tom Cribbin's successor, but Tullamore-born Cooney, who moved to Navan as a child and won an All-Ireland medal with Meath in 1988, expects him to be available next year.
"All the players are available and everybody knows how important Niall McNamee is to Offaly football so there's no doubt in my mind whatsoever where his interest lies," he said in the Irish Daily Mirror.
"He's carrying a bit of an injury at the moment and when he gets over that he'll be back pushing for a place like everybody else. I've spoken to all the players and it would be my intention to get the best players in Offaly available and I don't expect any problems in that regard."
Two players who definitely won't be involved with the Faithful County next year are Ciaran McManus, who has announced his inter-county retirement, and Joe Quinn, who has taken up a strength and conditioning role with the Westmeath footballers.

Why would you wnat to be a strength and conditioning coach for an intercounty team when you could be playing for an intercounty team.Seems mad if you ask me.He must be getting good money off them

And fair ball to him if he is. I dont think there is anyone on here that can hold it against a chap if is out trying to earn a crust in the current climate. He must be getting good money off them
If he has to sacrifice football at the top level well then so be it.bills gotta be paid and all that.........
If you don’t stand for something you fall for anything
