This topic has probably already been discussed in past I am sure but I just heard from a club official that a trainer of a senior football team in Offaly has already received over €6k so far this year from that club. The club official went on to tell me that this was little compared to what a few other clubs are paying trainers.
I was completely shocked with what I heard. This club has never been overly close to playing in county finals and I wouldnt even put them in the top 4 at present. This has to be easy money for a trainer with little major expectations of him.
Am I just old fashioned and not up with the times and is this normal for senior clubs in the county.

Re: Trainer Payments
This is an ongoing topic in the GAA, and while Fullbull has stayed safe by leaving more than enough ambiguity, I would ask anyone responding to make sure that anything they say that is identifiable to one club or person is either verifiable in a courtroom, or else stick to the general instance.
On the issue itself, I would say that no, this is not normal. A lot of clubs in Offaly are currently trained by members of that same club so it's reasonable to assume that they would never take money out of the club, while in general that would work out at around €150 per session, including matches - which I would say is on the high side for club managers these days. That wasn't uncommon before, but unless you're getting someone who has already won county championships elsewhere, I'd say the rate is well underneath that now. In actual fact I'd be shocked if that wasn't by far the most money that anyone in the SFC was paying. The hurling championship I won't speak for because I just don't know the clubs as well there.
Secondly, clubs are finding that a lot of their traditional benefactors no longer have the same amount of spare cash lying around so taking on an expense like this is not always an option, while you'll often find that people mightn't be as quick to sign up to their club lottos and the like when they know that this kind of thing is going on. Even if it was as simple as "paying a guy = county final appearance", I personally wouldn't want to see Ferbane going down that road and I'd guess that this view would be shared. The long term damage that bringing in that ethos can do cannot be overstated.
