Qualifier Action For Offaly Senior Teams Next Weekend
posted 30 minutes ago by PRO Offaly

Qualifier action continues for the Offaly senior football and hurling teams next weekend.

On Saturday evening, the footballers will host Down at O’Connor Park, with the throw-in at 7pm. And the hurlers will take on Tipperary in O’Moore Park, Portlaoise, on Sunday afternoon.

Offaly footballers advanced with a five point win over Waterford last Saturday and came out against a Down side who overcame Longford. Once Offaly hurlers defeated Limerick, they knew they would face Tipperary as they could not meet Antrim, having already played them in the Leinster Championship.

Dublin supporters can look forward to a double helping of GAA Hurling and Football action for the second weekend in a row at Croke Park.

The footballers’ clash with Armagh has been fixed for 5.00pm next Saturday, while Anthony Daly’s hurlers take on Antrim in the curtain raiser at 3.00pm.

Elsewhere, the Munster GAA Hurling Senior Championship final replay between Cork and Waterford has been fixed for next Saturday evening at 7.00pm in Thurles.

There is another GAA football All-Ireland Senior Championship Round 3 Qualifier on Saturday, with Derry taking on Kildare at 3pm.

The final GAA Football Qualifier, between Cork and Wexford, has a 3.30pm throw-in at Wexford Park on Sunday afternoon.

Heard a rumour that Tipp were pushing for the game to be in Nowlan Park. Delighted to hear that any such notion was thrown out of the water at least.

2002 Qualifier in Portlaoise: Tipperary 2-19 Offaly 1-09.

The venue won't worry Tipperary.

In fairness it was the most obvious neutral venue by a country mile. It's not that you'd expect Tipp to have any like or dislike of it, it's genuinely neutral.

As an aside, the Sunday fixture makes Dan Currams available as far as I'm aware? Be interesting to see if Parlon holds his place now....

The worst thing that could have happened was Parlon getting those 5 pints on Saturday. He'll defintley start on Sunday and will be blown out of the water.

Not from the hurling end of the county but this is a scandalous comment regarding the Parlon chap and is way too personal as is the previous slights against him. As if getting 5 points in an inter county championship match is a bad thing  :?:

I was at the match on Sat evening and while he did do some mediocre things,he also did some excellent things as did most of the team.

If he hadn't scored those 5 points and laid on the goal with a lovely switch ball, there mightn't be a next Sunday to worry about.

Doubtful anyone will remember.

We've played them twice in the championship and lost both games, once in Portlaoise when Stephen Browne got goal of the year if I recall correctly, and once in Thurles under McIntyre when Tipp edged the result in the closing stages.

Also back in 2003 in Crow Park under Mike Mac.
A very flattering 5 point losing margin.
