What would you do....
What would you do....
...if you were in the position of the Monaghan sub goalie, when their #1 gets injured before their game against Armagh, and management decide to play regular full back between the sticks?
I can't argue who is the better goalie, but i think it's bad form that the sub-goalie was kept on the panel by management with no intention of ever playing him.
Was he right to walk, or should he have stayed where he was knowing he'll never get a game?
I think he was dead right to go, but he should have hit McEnaney a slap before he went.

Re: What would you do....
I think he's definitely within his rights to ask a few tough questions and equally he would be entitled to some answers. First thing I'd be asking is what is the point of me being on this panel - am I simply there to make up numbers in training games, or what possible situation am I here to cover?
The thing about being on an intercounty panel is that whether you are the starting midfielder or the sub goalie, you are making the same commitments in terms of lifestyle, time, effort and so on - so while no player is or should be guaranteed to play, equally a player should be told on what basis he's in there. If it's simply to make up numbers in the training panel and that there are no cirumstances in which a certain player would be called on in a championship situation, they should be told that.

I definitely would have walked. What is the point of being a sub goalie on an inter-county team when you know if your first choice goalie is unavailable that your manager would play an outfield player between the posts before you??

I wouldnt be bothered with asking questions of McEnaney, actions speak louder than words.

Without doubt I would be gone.
I wonder would it now be hard to get another lad to come in

I'd be gone and if I was his clubmate Jap Finlay I'd be gone too. Shocking lack of loyalty by the manager despite the result vindicating him.

You'd have to wonder is there more to this story? Was there something else going on? However if its a straightforward case of picking the full back ahead of the sub goalie and I was the sub goalie well I'd be gone but I'd go kicking and screaming! Personal pride would no doubt come before the team in this instance and I'd go bizerk!!!!!

It just shows that wearing the #16 shirt doesn't necessarily make you the 2nd choice keeper.

Think it's a joke.....train all year and think you'll be stepping in if anything should go wrong with the 1st choice keeper and then ya get a big kick in the arse....I'd say the full back wasn't too impressed either unless he plays in goals for his club. The sub goalie should've kicked everything and everyone in sight!!!!!!Wasted 5 odd months running around in muck and shite and then ya get a kick in the rocks!!!!
