hardly fair that such an important match be played under lights on a wednesday night especially for shannonbridge who have to go all the way to walsh island... plus the bridge only played on saturday evening hardly had time to recover from such a hard match against gracefield

Agree 100%. Its madness. Whats the rush and why play the game so close to Edenderry? Perhaps the Bridge will use this as a motivating factor.
Also wecome to the forum blue+yellow!

I'd imagine it's down to the shortage of venues with lights, Edenderry were originally told it was to be in Ballinamere.
Anyway in this day and age with mechanically propelled vehicles I don't think travelling across Offaly is a major issue. Afterall Edenderry had to travel to Ferbane to play Shamrocks in the crucial final group game last year.
Tough game in prospect for both Clubs

well apparently walsh island was only pitch available that has flood lights. tubber and ballinamere wouldnt give there pitches.
surely o brien park would have been available?? would hav been a good place to have the game?? them flood lights are as good as walsh island are they not??
yup tough game alright whoever looses wil be relegated.

They also had to travel to Killeigh to play Gracefield which is only about 10 minutes from Gracefield. Hardly fair either..

Why does it have to be on during the week does anyone know? If it was on at the weekend it'd give Shannonbridge longer to recover and you wouldn't need a venue with lights?

Be that as it may, these are dozens of players involved in both codes, Ferbane & Belmont, Shamrocks and the like as well as other players playing another code with another club under permission. The Ferbane replay isn't fixed for midweek (and rightly so, there'll be plenty of opportunity for that) and it makes no sense for Shannonbridge to have to play such a match in midweek either.
As for the choice of venue, I thought when Birr footballers were fixed to play Clonbullogue (I think) in Gracefield, it said much about the fixture makers' knowledge of geography in south and west Offaly.
To say nuttin' about them fixing hurling matches for Birr when everyone knows the Callows are more playable than Birr and that it's inevitable that the matches will be refixed.

MATCH OFF - Pitch unplayable
Offaly needs a centralised all-weather facility like Meath and other counties

Match on tonight in Walsh Island @ 8.00pm.....
Why we have to travel so far yet again is beyond me!

Totally agree. We need probably 2 full size, all weather, floodlight pitches. The state of the the pitches at the minute are a joke and an insult to players playing at the sharp end of their championships, whether it's senior or junior-c.
One would do, for now.
