Birr on the bottom half of the draw, RB. Ditto Rhode in the football.

Read in the paper sid is out for this, that would be a blow for birr especially down in Nowlan Park if its true. It should be a good game. Best of luck to Birr.

After a bad start Birr battled well in the second half and while Ballyhale probably deserved to win but I have seen Birr play worse and come out on top. In the first half the ball was coming back out from the forwards a bit too handy and the backs had to hurl a good lot of ball. Birr missed 2 fairly decent goal chances early in the 2nd half and taking either of those would have seen them but the KK boys under a bit more pressure. I’d describe the second half as gutsy as at half time they were staring down the barrel of a bit of a thumping. Rory had an excellent 2nd half of Shefflin (God Shef can moan with the best of them) and showed again that he has both the physical presence and the hurling skill to give as good as he gets when he man marks one on one with the best hurler in the country. I will be interesting to see Joe Canning throw his hat in the ring for that accolade in the semi final and in the hurling season ahead.

Ballyhale were the better side but if Birr had of started better and been a bit wiser on the line they could of won it. By the second part of that I mean the way the 2 ballyhale midfielders dropped deep leaving a lot of space in the birr backline, in contrast birrs forwards were very crowded in the first half and were getting hooked and blocked very easily.
TJ Reid was outstanding for Shamrocks (bit greedy though),
Rory hurled good in 2nd half but was not in first on TJ Reid, JP O Meara was excellent throughout,Paul Molloy hurled well when introduced and Barry W came out on top against Cha, Sid did a few lovely things but wasnt getting any help from the ref.
