CLARA OUT??

Post by GOOFY »

Lads, anyone hear the rumour about Matt Mitchell playing illegally for clara?? Seemingly he needed a gap of 60 days between playing for his club in new york and playing for clara.

Rumour mill has it that St Rynaghs are going to object - punishment being that Clara are into the relegation battle and erin rovers are into the quarter finals.

Rovers & Rynaghs both set to gain if this happens,... big shock,... surely Clara had all this sorted before Mitchell came back.

Could anyone double check the rule on this? I'm pretty sure you can play in America one day, and play for your club back home the very next day. The 60 days would only come into play if Matt wanted to play in New York again?

I'll need to do some digging on this, but that will be done. I think what you're referring to above is the sanction thing - which would apply if Matt was getting a weekend or summer sanction to play in New York. My understanding is that Matt was fully transferred to New York, which would suggest that once his transfer back home went through he was eligible to play. The only potential cat amongst these pigeons would be if Matt was playing in New York on the back of a series of sanctions rather than on a full transfer.

All this playing in the US for the summer lark, really can screw up a players career or the teams he's involved with, as the GAA have a pretty convoluted transfer and eligibility system in place. I would be surprised if Clara got caught out on this one, as they should have been able to get a directive on how to proceed,.. but stranger things have happened, maybe it was overlooked.

There are several different scenarios but if it is a full sanction then the player can't play with his club for 60 days after the date of the approval of the sanction (rule 42 v).

There seems to be a bit of a problem in general with lads going overseas and being given misleading information by the club they're visiting about their eligibility when they return home.

So there are a number of different rules and it all depends on what type of transfer he had.
1) - Straight transfer club to club. As long as he transfered back, it went through and he did not play a championship game in NY then he is clear. If he played a game over there then he is in trouble as you can't play two different championship in the one year without the sanction.

2) Sanction - Once the sanction goes through he can't play back in Ireland for 60 days. if it went through in the 2 months prior to his first game here then it spells trouble, if it was before that then he's fine. The sanction was brought in so J1's could play over there, the 60 day rule was brought in to curb lads going out some weekends.

The weekend thing, I'm not sure about. The above is the North America rules, NY have their own when it comes to weekend passes. It will be interesting to see what comes from this

According to the Tribune, Clara are in the clear, all seems to be above board.

Plus, they note that the 'rumour' was doing the rounds and being discussed on 'internet forums'!!!!!!

I don't understand how there was a complaint in the first place. He was on a full transfer, and got a full transfer back to Clara. He didn't play in the States this year. I'm fairly sure there was never any concern over this in Clara.

Just to finish this lads - was Matt Mitchell on a full transfer from Clara, and does that mean that he could not play in new york this year??
