Referees

Post by TheManFromFerbane »

Well Lads and Lassies,

Simple one here. Based on everything you know and everything you've seen in the news lately with regard to Galvin and the Munster 21 Hurling Final would anyone here be a referee?

I for one think its a great way for a person to get in and volunteer within the GAA and as the recent strike in our own county shows the games just won't happen without them.

On the other side of the coin you see that they are given little or no respect from the majority of managers, players and supporters and little or no protection from the GAA itself.

I've great admiration for them, I disagree with a lot of them but I appreciate that they do a really difficult job, and I really think that something big is coming down the pipes as the GAA keeps taking them for granted while hanging them out to dry. If I was a referee last year in Offaly after what went on, I would have quit. I don't know how Catch Buckley got all the lads back blowing whistles again because the decision taken to reprieve Marys in the absence of the club pointing the finger was utterly shameless and it means that it WILL happen again. Not might, but will. God help us when it does.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.
