lost players

just wondering what players you think have gone by the wayside over the last few years who had/have the talent to play at the highest level with the faithful. it was interesting to hear tom coffey on the radio saying that 3 lads were on panel last year that got to leinster final but opted out this year. some that come to mind are; willie crampton, the nutterfields, lads that had great potential when minor/under 21. is this a worrying aspect.

It's a bit early to be writing him off yet, but Paul Deehan of Clara was shaping up to be a great talent for a good while there, and he turned into one of those that was better at 16 than he was at 18. As I said though, still time for him.

Going further back, Karol Kelly of Shannonbridge would have to go down as a guy in that bracket. A county minor star at 16, won a county medal with Shannonbridge at 17 and never played under 21 for Offaly despite basically being good enough while still in school. A bit west Offaly biased, but there you go.

There's that many lads I've drafted up my own "would be" panel....I think its better than the current senior panel but maybe I'm been biased there....

1) Colm McNamara (Edenderry)
2) Conor Mooney (Shamrocks)
3) Barry Murphy (Edenderry)
4) Michael Walsh (ballycumber)
5) Mark yeates (Shamrocks)
6) Ger Minnock (Ballycumber)
7) Keith Kavanagh (Rhode)
8) Brian Smith (Gracefield)
9) Joe Hughes (Tullamore)
10) Leonard Mooney (Shamrocks)
11) Frank Weir (Bracknagh)
12) Kenneth Claffey (Ferbane)
13) Karol kelly (Shannonbridge)
14) Shane Cunningham (Shamrocks)
15) David Connolly

Subs:
16) Alan Mulhall (Walsh Island)
17)Peter Flynn (Ballycumber)
18) Vinny Mooney (Shannonbridge)
19) Conor Bryant (Gracefield)
20) Colm Brazil (Doon)
21) John Greene (Daingain)
22) Willie Ryan (Doon)
23) John O'Neill (Gracefield)
24) Brian Monaghan (Shamrocks)
25) James Buckley (Tullamore)
26) Fergal McEvoy (Shannonbridge)
27) Mickey Flynn (Tullamore)
28) Ciaran Reilly (Edenderry)
29) Matthew Mitchell (Clara)
30) Basil Malone (Edenderry)

Every single one of those lads should have had a decenr county career, some were unlucky with injury or whatever but for the most part either they were called in & never given a run or they just hadn't enough interest to go in.

Slan!!!

Here is a lost player I wanted to check upon. I recall this individual to be extremely classy maybe not County standard but anyway...

The last time I saw him play was the U-21 Championship football decider between Tullamore and ShannonGaels of 2001 if I am not mistaken.
He was playing for the vanquished Tullamore team at Wing Back and had a wild mop of blond hair :D

Any Tullamore men in the know?
Jesus he was handy.
The one that got away?
