Thanks DD, the two hard games that the Meath crowd had obviously stood to them. It looked like it would be a hard one for them.

A good quality game yesterday in Edenderry was viewed by a crowd of about 650 patrons in pleasant surroundings and a great day for football.

The Reds had a great opportunity to win the game in injury time of normal time when they went a point ahead. However,after Richie Dalton went to the clouds and claimed another high ball, a thoroughly fussy referee decided to penalise him for overcarrying,when he was clearly not alone fouled,but generally assaulted. Don/Ashbourne kicked the free long and they got the equaliser.

In extra time Edenderry ran out of steam a little but they still could have snatched it when a great move the length of the field ended with their goalie making a great save which would have put the reds 1 point ahead.Instead they went up the field and scored a fortuitous goal after a member of the backline dropped a clanger.they tacked on another score straight after.6 points ahead,time almost up,game over.

Don/Ashbourne are a decent side and thoroughly deserved to win the game.Physical in all the central positions and a youthful splash throughout the side will serve them well in the upcoming Leinster Final.

All in all a good year for the red's with the ultimate goal of regaining Senior status at the first attempt achieved.

Just what I was about to write In fairness a good summary but with the glaring ommission of what was unfortunately the biggest talking point of the day.
After Sean Og's sending off (an off the ball incident I didn't see) a few minutes into the 2nd half of extra time an Edenderry "supporter" took it upon himself to have a less than polite word with the umpire who had fingered Sean Og to the referee. Fortunately a few lads quickly seen what was going on and dragged the gentleman away.
When the final whistle went, there was another go made at the umpire by a second individual and after some pushing and shoving things were eventually calmed down.
Even though we lost it was a great occasion hosting a big match but these incidents did sour the day as it was scandalous carry on and hopefully the two lads will be ran out of the club

I was quite surprised at this result actually - based on the good run that Tubber and Pullough had in this competition in recent years I thought that Edenderry would definitely be there or thereabouts. (I understand that's a bit harsh seeing as they lost the semi final in extra time, but you get my drift....)

Still, it probably was no harm for the Meath lads to have had a couple of real games after coming out of the county. It's only natural that any club will be focussing on getting back up to senior when playing intermediate, and after achieving that it can take a little bit of time to refocus on another competition which wouldn't have been at the forefront of the minds at the start of the year.

Still a good year for Edenderry though as True Red said. All they need now is to be drawn to play their first match next year against Rhode, and there'll be no stopping them over the winter.....

No we'll take Ballycucumber first and then the mighty men from the Village.

Motivation comes in all shapes and sizes I suppose.....

I would be far from an expert on Meath club football, but I reckon that Ashbourne/Donoghmore team could win the senior championship next year.

We might do the same..

According to Hoganstand, there was a 96 week ban handed out by Leinster Council for one of those involved in this incident.. No harm done there!
