Well Lads\Lassies,

Quick question I was wondering would anyone know off hand. How many clubs all-in-all are in Offaly and in Dublin?

I would be interesting to compare just the difference in size as population really isn't an accurate reflection.

Bord na Mona man would give you a more accurate response I would Imagine, but off the top of my head Offaly has 85 GAA clubs (or had a few years ago anyway) and Dublin has in the vicinity of 200 or so. (A little bit more I think)

Offaly's number is quite high for a county our size, but a lot of that is due to seperate underage clubs etc. (e.g Ferbane is Club, Belmont is another club and Ferbane-Belmont minor club is another one again)

Like I said though, BnAm Man would tell you a lot more accurately the state of play in Dublin.

It's always difficult to put a figure on this, but the Dublin total is reputed to be around the 220 mark.

Dont know about clubs but in Dublin there are 15 adult football league divisions, Senior 1 down to Junior, each with on average 15 teams.

So thats 225 adult football teams, so if each team carries 20 players it's a playing population of 4,500

How does a similar calc work out in Offaly ?
