Why do you cal it a no-win game???

we need to be clinical, we need to win well and never be in danger of defeat.....

after seeing both meath and the scumbags last sunday, id have no fear of meeting either....

meath play an innocent naive game, the dubs are to busy shaping to finish teams off......

im not dismissing carlow, it will be a tough physical game, but we should win, its the manner of our victory that should put fear into meath/dub and confidence in the fans,....

These words may come back to haunt me, but there is something badly wrong if we don't put these lads away with a bit to spare next Sunday. I'm not saying we're world beaters - far from it. What is true is that these lads are appalling. That horrendous day in Dr. Cullen Park two years ago was probably a 50 year low for Offaly football, and Carlow have gone back by about 8 points since then. They've lost their best player to Micko and his sugar daddy Sean Mulryan, half the best players in the county don't want to play for them and they can't get anyone to manage them.

It's all very well to be polite and correct and all, and needless to say the players should be affording Carlow the necessary respect, but we're aiming to return to a Leinster final this year. The semi final will be against either Meath or Dublin, either of which would rattle up a ten point win against Carlow, and as such so should we. I understand that traditionally we don't do well against minnows, but these lads were badly beaten by London in the league - if we can't polish them off there's no hope for us.

In terms of key things I'd like to see.....

(1) Just because it's Carlow and all the players will fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet is no reason for half forwards and midfielders to start making bad decisions and to do anything other than what they would do against Meath/Dublin, which is to deliver good early ball into Niall and Tommo and then make the supporting runs from there. This happened in 2005 against Louth - we beat them up, and developed loads of bad habits for the rest of the year.

(2) Karol Slattery has been off form so far this year, and we can't afford that. Carlow don't have much in their ranks, but Derek Hayden will give Karol a good run out. I'll be interested to see how he gets on.

(3) Mark Carpenter has been playing centre forward, and while he's not hugely mobile (code for he's carrying too much weight, or was in the spring anyway), he is an accurate distributor of the ball and can do damage if given space. Given our difficulty in this position, it'll be a good test to keep him under wraps.

(4) You don't win big championship games consistently without being able to keep teams down to low scores - something we consistently fail at. Bearing in mind key players like Simon Rea won't be playing, if we allow Carlow to raise ten flags we'll have failed miserably.

Sorry it's not the indepth preview I afforded to the hurling, but I just don't see this as a big game, in the sense that it is exactly what Hyper called it - a no-win game.

And as for this comment ....
meath play an innocent naive game
...well I don't really know what to say. I'd say it's a long time since anything about Graham Geraghty has been described as innocent or naive.
