Underage Hurlers!!

Lads every year I get hopeful about our Under 21s but surely this year we'll have a decent Under 21 Hurling team with so many of them blooded at senior level.

Are the following Under 21? - Joe Bergin, Paul Cleary, Michael Verney, Conor Hernon, David Kenny, Eddie Bevans, Shane Dooley, Diarmuid Horan, Daniel Currams, James Gorman? We have the backbone of a good team there.

The minors seem to be putting up good results in friendlies - beating Galway and Waterford in recent weeks.

What does everybody think?

I think you're looking for any straw to clutch on to. I was washing my Offaly jersey last night and I ended up having a conversation with it to the tune of, "why are you hurting me so much, when I've never let you down". I saw the U-21's in a challenge against Clare last week and they were brutal. They rested all the seniors so it was hard to judge. We have Kilkenny in the first round of the U-21, so that'll be the end of that. As for minor's, Birr C.S. have been improving recently and Roscrea had a number of Offaly lads on the team that reached the A.I. final. We live in hope.

When is the first round of the Leinster Under 21 championship?

While on the subject of underage , whats the Offaly Minor team like this year- who is training them?

Under 21's are down to play on the 20th of June.


As for the minors, well they beat Wicklow by 36 points at the weekend - so to answer your question, not a clue.

Kilkenny's stranglehold on schools hurling was particularly vice-like this year. Johnstown got to the Vocational schools final, CBS and Castlecomer met in the Leinster colleges final, there were four south Kilkenny hurlers on the De la Salle team that won the All Ireland, and that's before you count St. Kieran's, who tend to have a few decent hurlers even in a bad year.

It's actually ridiculous when you think about it.
