I heard that he has taken the incident very much to heart and is devastated. It was a bad mistake to make, but given the rule book can be a bit of a mire, it can very easily happen, if you drop your guard.

I suppose there are plenty of people who wouldn't get along with him, but he gives up a huge amount of his time to Offaly GAA and probably doesn't get much thanks for it.

It's funny how we've had the same Government for ten years now, countless mistakes and yet not one resignation of conscience, and still an amateur organisation can demonstrate that there are people of conscience out there.

As I said earlier on the other thread, an admission of error would have been more than enough for me in this circumstance - the only way to compound the error would have been to look for a loophole out, and hopefully this means that we'll at least be spared that. Christy certainly has been involved in a few rows down the years, but I don't think anyone could say he's ever done anything other than act in what he felt were the best interests of Offaly GAA, even if some might have felt our interests were different.

I agree, say we did wrong due to human error and mis-reading the rules, give the point back and move on. Christy has a thankless job and I'm sure not out to gain anything personal other than seeing Offaly win games. My biggest fear is that Casey will get a long ban and be out for the U21 semi final. I really think the county board needs to go in Thursday night and say sorry we F*#ked up, plead stupidity, get Casey back in action and move on without the league point. We can still gain promotion in the league by running the table, all games left are against teams above us and they'll take points from each other as well.

Please someone in the county board be a good wing man and jump on the grenade, God knows I did it plenty of times for buddies at 2am coming out of a night club. We need Casey back for the next U21 game as a Leinster final here would be great. The U21 hurlers could do the same looking at the number on the Senior team. I consider that a good year, getting to two U21 leinster finals. I'm going off the point here, sorry.

Yeah, failing to spot the definition of the meaning of levels and going public with it, is a very understandable error, in my view

Seriously though, I don't know the man, but he seems the type that the GAA needs. He made a mistake, but the man that never made a mistake, never made anything. Take the kicking and the lesson and get on with it.

For Ken Casey, it would be very unfair to punish him for someone elses mistake.

Lads, as i've said on another thread its got nothing to do with levals etc, but the fact that a personal hearing was sought deemed Casey inelligible for the seniors.....can treasurer or someone else confirm?

Having said that Christy was there too long on the other thread, I can hardly bemoan this if it is true. Christy Todd has given many years of great service to Offaly, that is without question. Unfortunately, in my view, Christy began to develop a complacency about 6 or 7 years ago, which developed into a 'know all' streak about GAA matters.

It could happen to anybody, and is understandable, but it is the main reason why this happened. A less complacent person would have put in phonecalls etc to make sure this one didn't happen. The Kildare thing last year was another needless risk.

Anyway, thanks Christy for all your years of service, and I for one would support him as a Chairman of the County Board. Anyone can go stale in the same job, but his attributes should not be lost to the county.
