Intermediate Final

Post by Superted »

Unfortunately Result did not go Tubbers way, final score was Confey 3-07 Tubber 1-08. Not much to report really, conditions were awful and the refereeing was strange to say the least. Tubber started both halfs poorly, 15mins before they scored there first point, everytime mac got the ball there were 4players surrounding him the home team were really up for it. When the 2nd half commenced it look as if Tubber would be hammered off the pitch, however Mac scored scored a super goal picked it up in midfield and brushed 2 players aside before unleashing a super strike in the corner of the, picked off a few good points and it was down to a point, missed 2 goal scoring opportunitys after that but then Confey pulled away. Fair play to Tubber they gave it a good go and battled well, hopefully this game and previous matches in Leinster will stand to them next year.

Hard Luck on Tubber!!

Post by Bogman »

Tough Luck on Tubber!! That goal by Ciaran McManus was worth the price of admission - it was a venomous shot from about 30 metres with a controlled trajectory which travelled flat and hard about 5 foot off the ground before dipping & hopping in front of the goals and going in off the goalie. He had very little of the goal to aim at and I still don't know how he did it. In some ways it was better than the goals against Donegal (League Semi 98), Laois in the championship match in Portlaoise a few years ago and the pick of the hat-trick against Dublin (League 2006).

Yes, the two goal chances that Tubber missed were decisive - the one early in the second half when 2 points down and the Ciaran McManus effort saved by the Confey keeper just after he scored the wonder goal.

Having said that the Confey side were bigger, stronger and slicker in transferring the ball. They could have won by more if they converted their chances. The referee let a few marginal things go in the run-up to a couple of the Confey goals but at the same time he also gave Tubber a lot of frees during certain periods of the match.

Tubber showed a lot of guts & heart to keep themselves in the match. They've had a great run and they've done Offaly proud.

Yeh that goal was special, brought back memories agianst Donegal in that League semi, would agree that confey were bigger, alot of the Tubber lads still look as if they are minor or under 21, in saying when Tubber got the goal it was there for the taking.
