Surely it makes sense to have a curtain raiser to get the crowd in on time

Re: Minors hurlers 2022
The minor All Ireland is fixed to precede the Senior All Ireland Semi-Final on Saturday July 2nd which will have the winner of Kilkenny vs Galway playing in it.
However you would have to think that there has to be some flexibility involved here e.g If Galway lose this weekend's Leinster Final but still manage to make it to the All Ireland Semi-Final, and their minors make All Ireland Final then both games would surely take place on Sunday July 3rd.

The same can be said about the Offaly minor hurlers playing the semi final on 18th of June and the footballers if they beat New York, the Tailteann cup semis are fixed for the 19th. Doubtful though as they are fixed for Croke Park but would be nice.
Agree it is good to have the minors before AI semi and not final, would increase attendance by x also and no issue with tickets.

Curtain raisers are losing their attractiion with every passing year. Look at tomorrow's Leinster final. Senior final at 7pm, which is fine. But the Joe McDonagh final throws in at 4.30pm and therefore will be over at 6pm, a full hour before the Leinster final throws in.

Pat Donegan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.
"Offaly's hurling is exact and abrasive: full of assurance on the ball, devoid of fumbling and slicing and sod-busting". Kevin Cashman RIP (September 1994).

That’s the trade off for “Winner on the Day”.Plain of the Herbs wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 6:09 pm Curtain raisers are losing their attractiion with every passing year. Re: Minors hurlers 2022
I’d be confident it will be the curtain raiser to the All Ireland Q-Final between Clare and Wexford (presuming Wexford beat Kerry) and it will be held in Thurles.
The other Quarter final between Cork and Galway (presuming Cork beat Antrim) will probably be proceeded by the other minor semi-final between Tipperary and Galway more than likely in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.
This would the logical way of making these fixtures therefore I could be way off!!
This is all on the proviso that the Senior Quarter Finals won’t be a double header. If they in fact do play the Senior Q-Finals as a double header (that will be in Thurles) then we might be looking at a minor double header in the Gaelic Grounds.

Fairly sure Frank that there is some rule (written or otherwise) that minor matches no longer go on the same bill as senior matches.frankthetank wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 4:17 pm I’d be confident it will be the curtain raiser to the All Ireland Q-Final between Clare and Wexford (presuming Wexford beat Kerry) and it will be held in Thurles.
Based on that the minors won't be part of any double header with the senior games.

More or less says 12 o clock or 7pm throw in.
I do agree that the minors of clare and Galway should be played before the seniors at different venues. Makes sense and gets the crowd in.

Surely they’ll not play it at 7pm on the evening before a lot of fans will then travel to Croker the following day.Buttons wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 6:44 pm https://www.offalyexpress.ie/news/gaa/8 ... rlers.html

Would suit Offaly better not to have to hurl in front of perhaps up to 10,000 from Clare.

Re: Minors hurlers 2022
Playing the minor and senior games on the same day will mean that one or other county will draw the short straw, so to speak. Playing the minor and senior games at separate venues would pose logistical difficulties for Clare (and Galway) supporters. Playing them at the same venue would put Offaly at a relative disadvantage in terms of support. Unless of course Offaly supporters came out in their thousands to support their team!
But if the senior games are on the one bill there would be no space there for the minor matches anyway. Is there a possibility that the Offaly Clare game could be fixed for a week night?

A Friday night at 7pm in thurles , Portlaoise or Limerick would be a good solution.
