Troy’s puckouts aren’t as long as Hoare’s, but he is deadly accurate.
We ended up regretting his father Jim being dropped in 1995…

I don’t expect Adam Screeney to hurl any Fitzgibbon this year, heard it here first.

Jim wasn't 'dropped' in 1995.

Pat Donegan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

"Offaly's hurling is exact and abrasive: full of assurance on the ball, devoid of fumbling and slicing and sod-busting". Kevin Cashman RIP (September 1994).

I don’t know how he can be judged on his puck outs , Offaly didn’t really play a long game from puck outs last year its was usually short and then maybe be long or worked up the field

Is the whole supporting group here gone mental
Since Offaly last lined out

It’s seemed to be forgotten we have a senior panel full of senior players

We have an under 20 team that won an all Ireland beating kk on the way

Now everyone wants to gut that and play them at senior not even on the panel but straight into the team

Mark Troy is now not good enough despite having a great year

Has everyone gone BONKERS ?

I think it’s great here, it’s all about competition and the problem is we have two great goalies and in my opinion there is little between the two. However there is no doubt for the current year Troy is number 1 and likewise Hoare number 1 with the u20s. This discussion is a year too early, let’s hope the two commit long term to Offaly.
I think for 99% of people they would have no issue if one was picked over the other.

Don't think people want to gut the u20 team. Shirley played senior last year, screeney started the joe mc final. Cathal King played every game and bourke played alot while under 20.

This year Shirley, ravenhill and screeney will all start IMO at least.

Apart from the second half against Belmont, I struggle to see what Dan Ravenhill has done to warrant a start for our seniors. Another year maturing with our under 20s would be more beneficial for him in my opinion.

I think Hoare, Mahon, Shirley and Screeney should start for our seniors, and possibly Ter Guinan if he continues his good form when he returns from injury.

Colin Spain and Cathal King will also be there hurl very well in McDonagh cup final colin spain introduction again laois
was a big reason offaly won. Dan Ravenhill was injured again Galway in the under 20 and should have never played
again laois in the first round of the McDonagh cup was brough off after 20 minutes and was gone for the year.
a fit Dan Ravenhill will be on the first 15 this year.

After seeing what Tipperary did to Laois last night in a challenge game I have some trepidation about this fixture versus Kilkenny,

He got injured vs Dublin in the first round of the under 20 came on vs Galway (injured) and then vs Laois he started (injured) did his hamstring missed every game except for the all Ireland after that

If he’s fit and hurling well he might get the start

Made the trip to UL last night for UL versus SETU Waterford (WIT)

As mentioned previously, no Screeney for UL as he faces a while out with osteitis pubis. I hope he’s given the time to recover correctly and isn’t rushed back by any team or management.

UL started better with their star studded lineup including Mark Fitzgerald, Colin Coughlan, Adam English, Gearoid O’Connor, Aidan O’Connor and Jack Leahy. SETU brought it back and kept it at 4-5 points throughout before a late UL spree saw them win by 13 points.
Reuben O’Halloran from Waterford hurled well for SETU in their forwards but Cathal King was without a doubt the standout for me.
He followed Adam English around everywhere for the first 40 minutes and made a couple of breaks up the pitch himself. English then succumbed to a leg injury, at which point King was sent back to do a man marking job on Aidan O’Connor. Very impressed with his display.

No other Offaly lads in action in last nights other 2 games (UCC v UCD & Mary I v ATU Galway).

Should be a few in action tonight between TUS Midwest (LIT) (James Mahon, Coakley) v DCU (Shirley, Sam Bourke) & NUIG (Dan Bourke, Mitchell, Taaffe) v MTU Cork. Don’t think either is being streamed.

Offaly hurled Kerry last weekend in UL also and had a good enough win. Good few of the younger lads impressed and one or two newcomers. Eimhin Kelly sustained a bad injury and looks to be out for a while.
Kilkenny this Saturday in the faithful fields.
20s are hurling a challenge against Cork in Pairc Ui Chaoimh soon aswell.

Wouldnt think Screeney would make that UL team anyway. UL is always stacked with established inter county seniors from Liam McCarthy counties. The best young players from Limerick Clare Tipp and North Cork all generally go to UL. The softer ground of fitzgibbon hurling will also not help him where physicality is crucial. He will do well to make it next year.

Just because the best young players from those counties may attend UL doesn’t mean the best Offaly lads wouldn’t.
We are all ireland u20 champions and he is one of our best players, why would a 20 year old be any better because they come from Clare or Limerick?
He’s better than either corner forward, Jack Leahy from Dungourney and Patrick O’Donovan from Effin.
