Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024
My thoughts would be while we did achieve all we wanted to achieve this year, I’d like to see a huge crowd turn out for the lads and show their appreciation for getting back into the Leinster championship.
We should of course been given an extra week to recover it’s a very big ask to compete with Cork especially after some of the boys will be playing 3 weeks in a row.

Offaly will get about a €60k holiday fund for winning the Joe Mc. I suggest the players head off on a well earned break now.
For Saturday we should send out an ensemble line up of the biggest timber merchants in the county. Make mincemeat of Cork. Recreate that YouTube clip from a couple of pages back.
Then pat them on the head and tell them they need to toughen up for the future.

Very disappointing for the Senior lads that there was no posts on social media (bar the original one about the homecoming) promoting the homecoming in Shinrone yesterday, no pictures etc of yesterdays homecoming where as the under 20 was on social media at every opportunity.
I suppose my point is that Joe Mc win was such an important step for Offaly in general and feels like it hasn't been celebrated, promoted etc

I was in shinrone yesterday. it was fantastic intimate occasion with a decent crowd. It was never going to be on a par with the u20s but at the same time I’d say the players were happy with the turnout.JimBwobb wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 8:12 am Very disappointing for the Senior lads that there was no posts on social media (bar the original one about the homecoming) promoting the homecoming in Shinrone yesterday, no pictures etc of yesterdays homecoming where as the under 20 was on social media at every opportunity.

Brilliant gesture/idea to have it in Shinrone and I’m sure Jason Sampson will remember it for a long time.
Next Saturday is a huge ask but I’ll worry about that on Saturday afternoon.

I agree in relation to our own "crowd" not covering themselves in glory alright and warned against that for the U20 final with the late start.
Just thought that it was pretty bad (some of the abuse, and crazy drunkiness) given the small crowd that attended on Saturday.
Regards pulling timber on Cork, I take it that it is probably tongue in cheek.
I thinkk we should get stuck into them alright and make it as difficult as possible. A more arrogant shower its not possible to meet.
Except some of our crew who continuously live in the past in relation to All Stars and competitions won decades back now.
turn up , play the game, give opportunity to some panel members. Been a great year and have to see it out now.
In relation to Dan Bourke, he was excellent. But without criticising him at all, if he got his head up on a few occasions in each of the games, the impact he can have is boundless. that last ball he won, if he had the legs he probably would have a had a go himself but he popped it to Sampson, but to me that was Dans score.
Just before that score, some of the decisions made by our lads summed up the frustration many supporters feel, not easy at that point in the game, but we were blocked down on 2 occasions when there were free men around to work the ball. Even when Sirley got that ball I thought he was going to lash it to a 3 v 1 with Mitchell. Thankfully he didnt.

Great to hear that there was a decent turnout for the Seniors and a great gesture to have it in Shinrone.
Well deserved for the lads and a fine spot for a pint.

I’m fairly sure I read that the hurling is at 5.Doon Exile wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 11:23 am Anyone hear anything about throw in time for Saturday. Football is at 3pm so hurling at 1pm???
It is sure to be a sell-out, as the Cork hurlers are on the crest of a wave, as are the footballers having beaten Donegal last time out.
Winner of Cork and Tyrone will top their group.
With all that in mind, it is important that the ticket allocation is done in a fair and transparent way.
Here is what I think it should be:
Offaly - 8,000
Tyrone - 8,000
Rest of country - 1,500
Cork - 500
Any Tyrone fan that stays for the hurling will receive a free pint in their Tullamore pub of choice.
