AFAIK, Ruairi hasn't called it a day from the Offaly panel -definitely hasn't retired. I think Kevin (and other reporters) possibly misreported this in their correspondence. He is just taking time out from the current set out ,where he doesn't seem to be part of the equation going forward or even backwards.....My humble views wee elequently expressed ny Mr Nolan through the soial media chanels...

As said on a separate thread - pay no heed to bitter Tullamore men.

AFAIK Ruairi is retired.

I can confirm Ruairí is opting out for 2026 and that's all. Whether he chooses to make himself available for selection for 2027 is another matter and probably dependent on other factors, but as of now, all he's done is said he doesn't want to play next year.

Melia from Bracknagh needs to be brought in as GK option as priority. Super player and well ahead of White. Dunican could be injured for while after Tullamore game. Between Chip O Toole and Melia if this is the case.

Adam Mahon is probably 29 and was tried before. Not sure any better now than at 23 when he was deemed not good enough.

I'd like to see Jamie Evans if still around. Huge talent that only got going under Liam Kearns before being cast aside.

Also like to see Cian Farrell, Bill Carroll, Harry Plunkett and Anton, but fear we won't see any of them. Cathal Mangan also should be there if back in country. Karl Stewart is home and could offer something too.

Sean Conway and one of the Kennys from Ballycommon could be options to develop, as will Geordie O Meara from Ballinagar. Possibly another one or two from Ballinagar also.

As for young lads, Dara Bates Shamrocks and Cian McNamee should be works in progress for this management team and should at least be brought in immediately to develop strength wise.

Cian Mcnamee not eligible to go near senior county set ups for another 2 years. Time enough for him let him develop at u 20 for a few yrs some names been thrown around either lack the commitment or there is a clash of personality with the MGT team or aren’t actually good enough
I expect come the crunch games in the league there will be very little change to the team with a couple of changes around the fringes.
The keeper situation is an interesting one chip o Toole would seem next in line. Then Corey white is defo good enough to step up and be a live contender very highly rated in Tullamore anyway.
There are so many variables when a panel is been formed and not everybody will be happy.

Struggle with this type of stuff,

Names being bandied around and not even remotely in the mix for senior.
Time for analysing squad is when
A) Club championships are finished and
B) When availability is considered

Also I see that only 4 players on the squad outside of Senior A clubs?

Anyway, of course its a free country but some of the names?? Cathal Mangan??? He's a good lad and all, and is in the country but has not raised a gallop since he was last in with Offaly in John Maughans time. Be great is he wanted it but I think he's not interested.

Still early days I assume as championship still on. Was Kellaghan dropped?

Nobody else springs to mind as Ru is retired. After that really you are left with the Darby’s, McNamees, Sullivan etc who are all finished with Offaly.

Kellaghan never got his full chance yet, and he had a good year for Rhode so he deserves a place at the very least.

Its very disappointing to hear Kellaghan is not in with Offaly.

A fine player, has size and pucks of football. He had a very good championship also.

I dont understand this tbh.

Absolutely agree with True Red above.

Just as a reminder, here's the Offaly panel from the first round of the league in 2025.

Image

Already we know that out of that list, from players that would generally play in the top half of the pitch, we need to replace Ruairí McNamee, Cathal Flynn, Nigel Dunne and in all likelihood, Cillian Bourke. Out of some of the rest - Gallagher, Sawyer, McDermott, Donohoe - I don't think I'm being harsh when I say that they all have a bit to find on 2025 form if they are to well and truly get in the mix for the equivalent fixture in three months' time.

So as far as I'm concerned there is absolutely room for Kelleghan, for Harry Plunkett, for Cian Farrell, for Cian Johnson and probably a few more along with it. And at the risk of showing a bit too much bias towards the big clubs, I'd say those four are all probably a bit further on right now than the quartet I mentioned above.

Roo hasn't retired. As Lone Shark confirmed, he has made himself unavailable for next year as has Aaron Keelaghan. Paddy Duncian won't be back for the guts of a year with an ACL. Cathal Donohoe gone too. Having Diarmuid Egan back fit will be a big plus. Of that panel of 26 from last years first league game, It looks like 9 of them won't be involved for the start of the league anyway.

Anyone know how Sawyer fared with Castleknock during the club champ? He looked off the inter county pace the few times he featured for Offaly.

For frees alone Harry Plunkett could be worth a place on the team never mind the panel. Was Kellaghan dropped or opt out? It’s a worrying sign if him and Ruairi mac are both opting out.

Any senior matches I saw the 3 lads mentioned above, Cian Farrell , Flynn and Johnson were probably the best forwards in the senior A championship. Grafted they’re playing for strong teams but is Johnson the only one on the panel.

Those lads prob not much better than Tierney, O’Neill, Bryant at all but they’re better players than some of the lads L Shark mentioned above.
