Football matches happen on the day. If you turn up, you've a chance. If you don't, you lose. Look at Dublin beating Limerick in hurling. Look at Munster final v group game between Limerick and Cork.

Looking at who we beat v what they did afterwards is absolute sh*t talk. Any team can beat any other team who are within 8-12 ranking places above or below them generally, depending on work ethic and application on the day obviously. The amount of variables that goes into a team winning or losing is huge but lot of it comes down to ability / athletic prowess and work ethic ON THAT PARTICULAR DAY. The nature of the game ensures that and tdats why we love it. A managers role is to maximise that. We got way more from our team this year than last year with largely same crop of players. There is a very simple reason for that.

Good look to Limerick and Kildare. They did it on day when it mattered. We are getting closer. We need to turn up fully on these championship days to get to next level. I'd be satisfied we have moved in positive direction this year but there is more in us. Looking at seasons Down and Louth had this year, we need to have that level of ambition. Its within our capability. There is a level of panel in Offaly now that should have expectation for itself. That hopefully will ensure buy in to s&C over winter so players turn in to panel in November fitter faster and stronger than last year so that we are ready next year to take the next step.

Thanks for your astute commen Jimbob. Offaly can move on to better things, now that we got out of Div3. Down were within a few points today of beating Galway, Louth won Leinster, Meath have a useful outfit, they beat Kerry recently, which Tomas O Se forgot on the Sunday Game.
Looking to better days ahead.

Watched the Limerick Wicklow game yesterday
Very average I thought Limerick just had a physical edge .
I wasn't going stay to watch Kildare game after enough of them already this year .
I just thought to myself after we really missed the boat this year in the taliteann cup
Because if we suffer a hard division 2 campaign and we get a few beatings which could happen ( we never had that this year
Except for a bit of cockup against Fermanagh) we probably will not be in the frame of mind for a campaign next year
And Leinster will be tough because of Dublin
Demise counties smell blood and will raise there game they will be thinking what we are thinking..
I suppose it is a what if but it does have the feeling of the person who bought the euro millions ticket after the winner had bought there's.

According to Kevin Corrigan, Ruairi McNamee has called it a day with Offaly. A great servant and has been brilliant throughout. He’ll be missed.

That’s a pity. He is a very skilled and stylish player. Lost his starting place this year which I’m sure disappointed him but he was invariably one of the first subs brought on and generally made a strong contribution. He remains very young, not even 30 and still had loads to offer. Perhaps he’ll be back at some stage.

He will be missed.

I guess it shows that the intercounty career is not as long as once was really. Especially if slipping down the pecking order.
He's been a very good footballer for Offaly and a decent guy who always made a contribution. Sorry to see him go as that type of experience and presence around the squad is always a loss.
He's a busy man with work and his fitness classes and wish him well in his endeavours in the coming years.

I think anybody with a sense of what’s going on with football in Offaly knows why Ru is walking away. A hugely committed player who loved representing his county had loads to offer such a pity he won’t be playing next year. Hopefully when things change we will see him back in an Offaly jersey again . A top top player.

Don't pay any heed to the disgruntled Tullamore supporter.

Wish Ruairi all the best, still had something to contribute off the bench but he had lost the No.11 shirt and was never winning it back.

Yeah, tone in both minor and senior county camps was excellent this year.

What’s going on with Offaly football at senior level is very good.
