Offaly Senior Footballers 2025
Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2025
What are we thinking for Saturday?
Are many people going to the game?

Yeah, looking forward to it. That's a proper test straight up, Wicklow will be in good spirits after a very decent showing against Dublin. Add in a one-sided game when the sides met last year, and I'm expecting a fair contest.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Offaly division 2 next year Wicklow division 4 if we can’t beat these then we’ve no business going up against Tyrone Derry Cork etc next year
Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2025
I see our R2 game has been confirmed for Saturday week at 1.30 In Walsh Park. Not as big a journey as Dungarvan would’ve been. No word yet on the Laois game.

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2025
I suppose with the hurlers playing in Wexford at 5 pm it made sense for once
Mind you Dungarvan in this weather would be a nice day out
The Loais game could be in a Tipperary venue
I have been told ( according to someone in the Tipperary gaa they have been asked to host a match ) whom it will be ?

Offaly finished 8/9/10 places above Wicklow in the league. Let's not over imagine any gulf.Behindthegoal wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 1:37 pm Offaly division 2 next year Wicklow division 4 if we can’t beat these then we’ve no business going up against Tyrone Derry Cork etc next year

To be honest anything other than Tullamore or Portlaoise would be farcical, but if it has to go outside the county, Nenagh wouldn't be the worst. McDonagh Park could probably take the crowd, since it would be quite small, to say the least.

Is that the ground in Nenagh, ? a small venue. Limerick beat Offaly there in a league game in the noughties.Lone Shark wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 2:17 pm To be honest anything other than Tullamore or Portlaoise would be farcical, but if it has to go outside the county, Nenagh wouldn't be the worst. Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2025
Anywhere in Tipp would be a farce. No part of Laois or Offaly is that close to Thurles. Anywhere that borders Tipp is mainly hurling (Birr, Rathdowney, Camross, Shinrone)
Nenagh would be an insult to the TC and the counties involved. Common sense says toss for it, some middling sense says Newbridge. Nowhere else is suitable unless they wanted a double header.

Yes, the 2007 relegation play off was held there. From my recollection of the venue, it would be well capable of hosting a TC match with Offaly and Leix.SearingDrive wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 8:06 pmIs that the ground in Nenagh, ? a small venue. Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2025
Offaly’s aim has to be to play in the Sam Maguire in 2026.
They have 3 routes to do so:
1. Get to next year’s Leinster final. This would depend on the luck of the draw, Dublin will come with a vengeance next year and look to steamroll their side of the draw. Avoiding Dublin would mean taking down 1 or 2 of Kildare / Louth / Meath / Westmeath on the other side.
We are constantly reminded of how superior Munster hurling is to Leinster and how they should have more than 3 teams coming out. Very little word on Clare qualifying for the All Ireland series over Offaly in football, simply by beating Tipperary.
2. Survive in Division 2.
Meath, Cavan, Cork, Louth, Derry, Tyrone, Kildare.
You’re looking at 5 or 6 points needed to survive.
Even at that, it may depend on the provincials to dictate whether you make the Sam Maguire (I think).
3. Win the Tailteann Cup.
The most straightforward of the possibilities and also the most immediate.
The best way to win the TC is to top your group and to get a favourable draw.
The best way to top your group is to win all of your games, starting with Wicklow this weekend.
Fermanagh, Kildare, Laois, Sligo and Westmeath are the other dangers.
Offaly are third favourites.

At this point the aim is to win Saturday and take it one game at a time as is standard now for Go Games to Sam Mcquire!!faithfulfanatic wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 8:04 am Offaly’s aim has to be to play in the Sam Maguire in 2026.

Is anyone else having problems with the Ticketmaster for the 3 game package? It was available to purchase the other day but is unavailable now. They hardly put a deadline on purchasing it to be this early.
