Made the trip down to the 'sunny south east' this afternoon (soaked to the skin).

I think we will all be in agreement on the refereeing, so not much to say on that.

Very concerning to not score in the last 20+ minutes and there will be tougher tests in Leinster than Waterford.

I thought both Jason & Killian Sampson were excellent while Ross Ravenhill put in a good shift.

The number of missed dead balls is very concerning, similarly I don't know if Duignan should be on penalties.

1.8 from play is well below the level required, but allowance must be made for the deplorable weather conditions.

I thought our first touch let us down a lot today which was disappointing. Also not sure if anyone that was sprung from the bench put their hands up for future selection; in saying that it was great to see Cahill back and he only got a couple of minutes so hopefully he will be back up to the speed of things soon.

Onwards to a couple of weeks time where another game at a decent level in (hopefully) better conditions will stand to us.

too many wides for this level. but we aquitted ourselves well. reasonably confident 2 weeks time will be close at least. gaa must really be stuck for refs when johnny murphy(and stack) are involved at senior intercounty level. they simpy not up to it. with stack its ego with murphy its incompetence.

I think we have a great chance in the final, 14 men for a large part of the game and we gassed out at the 50 min mark. The ref was shocking poor and the sending off decided the game, conditions were tough
We battled hard and didn't concede any goals, hopefully drier conditions the next day and we can have a right go at them again.

This forum amazes me the stuff you see is just out of this world and a good thing some aren’t an influence on teams to think there was an argument Troy shouldn’t be in goals is just an example

It was definitely a wrong decision on the red and that decision followed through the game on referee decisions

We struggled to control the ball and then we carried into trouble when we could have went for a score

Played very well at times but the extra man wore us out

Referee and linesman should be questioned

Good performance all things considering. Troy, Ravenhill, Duignan, Ter Guinan and especially Dan Bourke played very well but good performances all over. Get Kiely and Conneely back firing and in the starting 15 and Offaly will be very strong.

This game will bring on some of our younger players hugely, there was a big step up in physically today, especially when we were battling against the odds with 14 men. Donal Shirley is a fine prospect, and a very intelligent hurler, but played himself to a standstill by the end. Same for Ross Ravenhill and Colin Spain, who couldn’t give any more in the last 10 minutes. Dan Bourke is such a fine hurler, and flies over the ground, he will be a small bit disappointed with a couple of wides late on, but you’d expect will learn a lot from today.
Agree with a previous poster that getting Cillian Kiely back and firing would be a big boost, along with Dan Ravenhill and a firing Oisin Kelly.
Agree also that Waterford can be hard to take sometimes. A lot of arrogance based on a couple of provincial titles in the last 30 years. I think (hope) we could shove it back up their throats in a few weeks time. We will have learned more from today’s game than the glass blowers.

Looking at the condition of the Páirc Uí Chaoimh pitch yesterday evening pitch, I wouldn't be dissatisfied if it was there.

I agree that a red card wasn't warranted for Mahon's tackle. The risk of going in with shoulder challenge has increased though, get it slightly wrong and officials are taking a dim view. However, they completely over reacted in this instance.

There may be some bemusement among Offaly folk. Since Offaly's fortunes have improved, we've been getting lectures about we don't understand the physical nature of top tier hurling, especially Munster hurling.
Last summer, Pat Horgan spent an afternoon throwing himself onto the Tullamore sod and Sean Stack behaved like his personal valet, making sure there no grass stains on him. Yesterday, Stack was like a Go-Games ref for Mahon's shoulder.

It’s not official yet but that’s what I’m told is happening.

Good post G91. Offaly were in contention for about 50 minutes, but just faded, being down to 14 men early on. Should the Waterford keeper have been sent off, for his tackle on Charlie Mitchell in he second half ?. Mitchell had to go off after the tackle. The no 1 pulled off a good save from the Offaly penalty.

Offaly are capable of winning the final in April against Waterford, as we are as good as the Deise side.
