Great news about expansion of FF
But what about floodlights in tullamore or birr
FF is only ever going to hold 2 k max and remember it is very much in the middle of knowhere.
Even Kildare put there money in St conleith
Park even though they had hawkridge
For a lot longer than we have had FF..
Kildare have their centre of excellence at Hawkfield. The Faithful Fields are beside the N 52, between Tullamore and Birr, hardly the middle of nowhere.
Do you ever think before posting a comment?
I know where they are but realistically why aren't we getting floodlighting in our principle grounds it's a simple question.
Expanding training facilities is great but then others have to close you can't mentain everything is about cost returns .
We all know of the folly of parnalls in Dublin.
As a freelance reporter, it would suit me immensely if lights were installed in OCP or SBP. But if I was Offaly GAA chairperson, it would be a long way down my list of priorities. Ask any manager before or after the building of the Faithful Fields, and training facilities were basically the biggest problem beforehand, and one of the biggest assets to Offaly GAA now. Having been involved in a couple of county setups 10-15 years ago, I can tell you definitively that a farcical amount of time and energy was spent dealing with logistics, and it's the very same in Roscommon now.
I wouldn't tend to be in the FF on an ordinary training night so I've no idea what the load is on the facilities over there, but if more space is needed, then 100%, that's where we should concentrate our efforts.
And yeah, the ability to hold night games in the Spring and Autumn is great - but it's not a game changer, and there's a very small number of games where we need lights, and yet Faithful Fields (or Gracefield) won't do the job.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.
Find it odd that the offaly training panels are never announced when they regroup pre Xmas
I see counties like Limerick and others announce their full training panels
Couldn’t we do the same? Might gee up some interest and conversation prior to the season kicking off
Amazed that there hasn’t been much mention of the fact that we have one of the highest profile managers in the game taking our footballers this year and yet 3 of our best players are not involved. I thought lads would be tearing to get in and impress him

Superhans I think you have a valid point, but other posters have outlined the reasons for Offaly GAA developing other facilities presently.
I would like to see lights in Glenisk OCP at some stage.

Ah lads,
I'd love to see floodlights in ocp but having an extra pitch or two in the faithful fields would be of way more benefit.
I’m not blinded by the light (s) as the song says. The FF expansion is on Immediate benefit in playing/ training facilities.
Im not sure, it looked like those who you would expect to be there were there. Charlie Mitchell and James mahon played from kk. Dan ravenhill played and I think David nally also but I could be wrong on nally.
We shouldn’t start flooding our senior team with under 20 players let them compete and build at that level
We have a senior squad with a few who are now over age for under 20 we didn’t need to overload the panel last year
Underage titles are massive and if you think not well then your just delusional every one went crazy for the football all Ireland why ? Because it was the first glimpse of success in years and it’s fantastic to see a young Team achieve something like an all Ireland they might never get near an Offaly team again
Why can’t both be a priority it’s a big two fingers to the players at under 20 who are training hard and now people are more or less saying it doesn’t matter it’s senior what’s important
Sure if we just kept screeney for senior and Dan Burke last year and add few more weakening the under 20 team and thus loosing a chance of winning an all Ireland that is in fact what would happen and the by sounds of this forum there be no under 20 team left and the seniors should just step aside and let them play
Realistically it’s looking like Antrim v Offaly relegation play off
I do think Offaly will give the rest a good rattle I think Wexford are there for the taking
Balance is what’s needed im pretty sure Lee and Jonny have a good relationship

Completely agree. I definitely think we should give the u20 a full rattle. We have an extremely talented bunch at this grade, a generational group so in my view, it would be horrific to ignore that.
They have the guts of 10 years afterwards to play senior.
