1. Promotion assured for Offaly

2. Waterford have to win

3. Guaranteed squad rotation from Offaly

I don’t want to be overly pessimistic but it’s possible that the Waterford game could be a long day at the office.

No harm to dampen the hype anyways.

All attention (for the seniors) has to be now on Dublin in Round 1. A win and a great year could be in store. A loss and the Antrim game in Round 5 immediately enters the consciousness.

I see the league final is fixed for Croke Park.

Could you provide a source for that please?

It’s just I find it a poor and surprising choice if true.

In the case of a Cork vs Tipperary 1A final you would think that
a) they have a pre arranged home and away agreement for league finals or

b) both teams would be happy to toss for home venue (particularly Cork who love hurling in Thurles anyways) or

c) The Gaelic Grounds in Limerick is the ideal neutral venue

The last time Cork and Tipperary met in the league finals was 1960 and the game was played in Cork.

In the case of a Galway vs Tipperary 1A final it surely is the case that the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick is the obvious choice.

Galway and Tipperary have met in 9 league finals since 1970 and the venues have been:

Gaelic Grounds Limerick x7
Cusack Park Ennis x1
Croke Park x1

All three of the Gaelic Grounds, Pairc ui Chaoimh and Semple Stadium would be thoroughly capable of catering for the expected crowd plus whatever few thousand turn up from Offaly vs Waterford* for
the 1B final.

Croke Park for these games would be nonsensical in my opinion and I just can’t see the feasibility. Only 2 finals have been held there this millennium and none since 2011, which involved 2 Leinster teams. (Dublin vs Kilkenny)

That confirms the venue, but it makes no sense travel wise. If say, Cork play Tipperary in the 1A final, Thurles would make more sense logistically, being convenient to all counties.

The Offaly v Waterford game this Sunday is to decide who tops Div. 1B, why not deem it a league final, as both counties meet again in Croke Park in the League Final? It would free up a Sunday before the provincial championships.

It's not though, technically Carlow still have a chance of finishing second. Unlikely, but not impossible.

Still doesn’t justify Croke Park., Did not reckon on Carlow.

Also it’s going to be a crazy 18 hours for the Croke Park groundskeepers.

Leinster have a Champions Cup game in CP the day before.

They really are putting undue pressure on themselves by selecting CP as the venue.

I wonder is it possible the author of that tweet from Offaly GAA is misinformed?

You'd have to imagine so. Cork and Tipp (the most likely finalists imo) are both desperate for revenue, they will 100% want to toss for home advantage. Even if they weren't, there isn't one county who would want the finals to be in CP. Offaly would be the only ones ambivalent, and even then, I'd say most Offaly people would prefer to go to Limerick or Thurles.

(But not Cork. Sweet Jesus, don't make us go to Cork!!)
