Probably the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard.. its u20 v Senior.. its as simple as that.. heard lads at this nonsense last year as well that they would have preferred an all u 20 leinster/all ireland instead of mcdonagh cup. The mind boggles. Is it glory hunting or what? I dunno. Utter madness.. It's a league title we haven't won since God knows when and we should be doing everything we can to win it. Something needs to be put in place to ensure u20s starting on the senior team are not playing u20 match within a week or Senior Championship or a league final for that matter. Will also give an opportunity to other lads at u20 to get get time and develop, which is the primary goal of u20 to develop players and get them ready for senior, winning along the way is a bonus. The more lads that get game time at top level u20 will be of huge benefit, a lad that might be on the fringes could improve massively with u20 game time and develop. Main goal for Offaly hurling this year is to stay in leinster and be competitive which gives us a platform for the next few years. You get your best team out at senior level to play together and get used to winning together and developing and the more senior games these lads get , the more it will prepare them for Championship this year.
The wind up merchant is back.
Weren’t you telling us all this time last year that the U20’s hadn’t a hope of winning an All Ireland and we should focus on the Joe McDonagh instead?
You went fairly quiet thereafter…
That was a different poster called Joey. And yes, I remember he believed the U20s were wasting their time and most upcoming matches footballers were either, 'should win' or 'should win comfortably'.
[Narrator's voice]"Offaly neither won comfortably, nor won at all".

First off I'm confused because I certainly never said anything of the like about the u20 hurlers and I don't remember even making any comment about them? I genuinely thought you were winding up people calling the league a b competion and making out like u20 was better/more important than senior , mcdonagh, league or otherwise but apparently you're serious??? You stink of glory hunting if that's the case. The job has been done with The u 20 senior starters and their first priority is to the senior team now because it's simply more important that they stay in leinster and was more important that they won the mcdonagh last year.

To be honest I'm here to give my opinion like everyone else.. assume I'm entitled to do that, I'd prefer not to be the butt of some joke that I'm not in on being honest.
I'm fully with Lone Shark. u20s should be left prioritise and play u20.
its a very good standard and highly competitive. there's every chance they will struggle in the u20 leinster championship because all the teams are competitive. if they could get to another leinster final it would be a very good achievement in itself even with the standards that are now set.
my view is if we are not good enough to be competitive without the u20s then we dont deserve to be there. cant be hanging hopes on very young players to lead and carry a senior team. if that is the case, then there is a problem with the player base in the county.
The likes of cork, tipp, limerick, kilkenny only gradually introduce young players. even their highly successful underage players only gradually get transitioned into senior. its two years since cork with a hugely physical team bullied our lads and yet only some of those big fellas are only now getting some game time in league. They need to earn senior respect. its a completely different game that's more about physicality than wrists now unfortunately.
I'm dont believe fast tracking lads into senior is a good long term plan.
Can't compare offaly to likes of Cork Tipperary or kilkenny. Player base in those counties are far broader than in offaly. Even at that, darragh mcarthy is only 19? And is one of Tipperarys best forwards, if your good enough age doesn't come into it.

We're not hanging our hopes on u20s , we're getting the best available players on the pitch to improve the senior team. And yea there is a problem with the player base because we're a dual county and when it comes to population we're 24th on the list!! If the lads are developed and ready, get them in and don't mind the u20.. they under 20s can have them if they are available 60+ hours before a senior championship match. U 20 priority is to develop players, winning is a bonus but when it comes to an outside manager he will of course want to win to boost his CV but it'll mean nothing if we don't compete well in leinster
I think the under 20s should go back to their group
Talk about ambition wouldn’t it be nice to go for 3 Leinsters underage in a row and get back to back all Irelands
These lads are playing the best of the best underage teams anyway we have seniors who are well capable off holding fort and the think it’s disrespectful to suggest other wise
wining Joe mcdonagh was just great day for me as the all Ireland I’ve been to many of the downs this crop of senior players the heartbreak v Carlow , the day Antrim relegated us , Westmeath giving us a hammering in mullingar and the obnoxious supporters gloating at our demise
Even go back to when pat Ryan Offaly manager had is bet v Waterford before we even played them played a horrible style of hurling
We have enough lads who look after both senior and under 20 who will work out a plan to suit
I think having Callanan working with our lads is making a good difference we seem to be taking our shots more and more lethal with our selection not as many hit hopes
Westmeath went that interested in playing the consistent professional fouls was madness
Maybe for the league the u20s can be done without for the remaider of the league, wont win the league
without 20s. Come championship no, offaly can't do without the 20s. Donal Shirley and Dan ravenhill are out and out seniors now, as will ter gunian and screeney if his injury clears up. It will take a bit of juggling come championship.
