Surely somebody reading this forum has the answer to these questions:

1) Which club commands the greatest geographical area in the County?

2) Which club has the luxury of selecting from the most populated area in the County? Not necessarily the most densely populated area in the County - I'm sure that would be Tullamore (ignore the pun).

This years census lists "Tullamore urban" as having a population of jus under 11,000. In a county of some seventy thousand, that probably swings it. There's a seperate listing for "Tullamore rural."

Note how few parishes there are east of Tullamore:- Edenderry, Rhode, Daingean, Killeigh-Raheen, St. Broughan's and North Portarlington. Must be one of them. I doubt it's a hurling club you're looking for, as there are quite a few covering roughly one third (the south) of the county.
Now that I think of it, Ferbane Belmont covers a considerable area from the Shannon to Boora. much of it it bog, though.

Ferbane Belmont would be more of a long slender parish which "wraps" around Cloghan parish. e.g. it would take you 5 times longer to travel from the Shannon to Boora thru the parish than it would to travel from the canal to the Doon border thru the parish.

If you're talking parishes, then you should contact the High & Mighty ones directly.

You West Offaly lads can dig out something from your own Diocese, but in the East, we're part of the "Kildare & Leighlin" Diocese, and their website give this map of the parishes.

On the basis of this, I would reckon Killeigh looks the biggest of the relevant group.

For anyone in the diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise here is a map of the parishes (i don't know to insert images!!!)

It takes in St.Rynaghs, Ferbane/Belmont, Clonmacnoise and Ballinahown. Only a few parishes in the county, but it includes my one, so there!!

As far as i know, The Dicese of Meath includes Rahan, Mucklagh, Mountbolus, Rath, Killcormac, Killoughey, Ballinamere, Durrow, Tullamore, Clara, Tubber, i may be wrong with some of the above parishes though!

Lusmagh is in this poor map from the Clonfert website. They say "Lusmagh is the only parish in the diocese of Clonfert which is in County Offaly, and in the province of Leinster. Official records show Lusmagh as part of County Galway until the 17th century, hence its position in Clonfert diocese. "
