Re: Lets start playing the club championships again

We have a system with five group games for every team, followed by either a quarter final or a relegation semi final - that's six games, which is a lot to fit in. It's all the more so when you allow for the fact that we can't play SFC on a weekend when the county hurlers are out, or hurling championship when the footballers are playing, due to dual players.

What we have now is a system whereby the clubs have two distinct seasons, but the players have a master fixture list that is being adhered to. It might not be absolutely ideal for anyone, but I think it is a pretty good compromise all round. I certainly wouldn't agree with this:

I'm not saying it's wrong, I don't have the definite answers, but there is a structure there and it beats anything that I could think of as an alternative.

I also agree that county finals in October are not such a bad thing either. In an ideal world I would argue that the year could start a bit later and you wouldn't have to have club championships in April, but that goes back to the point above - six weeks of fixtures for each code is a lot - it's hard enough fit them in now, without trying to adjust the four weeks played in late Spring as well.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.
