The Future
Of course everyone is born with natural talent....some have sport in their genes, some have music, others slope towards the academic side of things etc etc but one has to work at developing this talent and you will find that the person who works hardest rises to the top of their game whatever that may be..............

I disagree, i feel that some people are born with the ability to understand, learn and adapt to things quicker at an early age.
But like you said its all about hard work and more hard work and correct guidance from all coaches and trainers. Something that doesnt exist in Offaly.
Its funny i find people that can't take criticism towards Offaly.
Read over my points especially the ones regarding that young hurler thats gone playing soccer because there was NO GAME FOR HIM IN 2 MONTHS.
Read that the u-21's if trained correctly would have won the Leinster Championship and be in an All-Ireland Final.
Read how the county board are very poor and have very poor organisation skills. Not lack of effort - difference.
Read how despite what others say and investigate it yourself the underage coaching in the county is a joke.
Like i have said previous
The truth hurts lads and until ye realise that and the county board realise that Offaly hurling is going nowhere

People have delivered enough of a rant here in the last few pages that even Martin " space filler " Breheny of the irish independent would be proud.
I agree that everybody is entitled to their own view and without discussion and promotion of alternative views then it would be a fair boring world.
However, I am sick of coming onto this board and reading about lads complaining day in day out about the state of Offaly Hurling, coaching in Offaly etc., past players not helping out underage county teams , oh are the correct people over underage teams - do they know enough? etc. etc.
WE know the state of hurling at the moment.
Offalys Future has some legimate points about the structures and seems to have his ear to the ground about a lot of things.
Offalys Future - I would like to ask you , what contribution are you yourself making to steming the tide ? - Are you involved in your club - underage coaching , helping out in a club , or even playing? Have you made any sort of financial contribution to supporters club for example??
You give out about the county board - would you be prepared to put in the hours that some of them are putting in. The workload is such now that many countys have to employ a full time secretary - Cork , maybe kilkenny this year.
Lads on this board are like sunshine supporters , they expect the county team to be up there with the best and vent their anger at the County Board etc and give out that the correct people arent over development squads etc.
What are they themselves doing ?
In you are involved in a team / club , you will realise how hard it can be sometimes to get people to help out , particularly with underage teams. Most of these people probably have the coaching courses behind them anyway. Most other people seem 'too busy ' to help out etc. In most clubs if any body at all can help, its welcomed.
Fair play to Johnny Flaherty for helping train the development squads - at least he is making an effort. There is a calling on this board recently for former county stars to train the development squads. I would like to see them help out as there expertise and experience would be invaluable.
However , the way i see it these players have given plenty of committment to the county teams in the past ( 3 sessions during the week and match at the weekend for the best part of 5/6 years. ) They have given us enough enjoyment and pride already.
Its not up to the former county players to come back and start developing the county teams. There presence would be welcomed , but thats not there job.

This forum is for people to express their views, if you want to get the administrator to have a seperate section for "members only" that display their identity then i have no problem joining that and telling you exactly what i do. Until that happens then i wont be answering the above.Offalys Future - I would like to ask you , what contribution are you yourself making to steming the tide ? - Are you involved in your club - underage coaching , helping out in a club , or even playing? And midfield
if you think that all this is a rant and rave then dont bother replying your not forced to by anyone.
Close to 100k has been wasted on John McIntyre over the last three years and i can assure you that Johnny Flaherty isnt out of pocket for his work.
My final point is that at club level it is bad enough having people that cant coach properly but for the county panels, academies etc this is crazy. Yes these people are giving their time and putting in the effort but they arent doing their work correctly so its a waste of time.
Imagine a builder having 5 foreigners working on a house. They dont have a clue what to do but they put in over 70 hours a week. Do you think he is going to say " ah lads fair play for putting in the work even though ye made shite of my house" no he's not. He is going to go cracked because the job wasnt done right and the end result is proof of that.
This is the same as the underage in Offaly, you can have lads that are a passionate as hell about hurling, and will put in hours upon hours of work, but if they arent training and coaching the kids the correct way then the end result is going to be bad. That is what has been happening and will continue to happen until serious changes are made.
A serious overall and re-evaluation needs to be done in regards to hurling and how it is been coached and organised in the county ASAP.

You're entitled to your privacy of course but your continual knocking of current efforts might hold more sway if we had some idea of your own involvement. Pubs are full every night of the week with people who could do better, but there are only a handful actually doing. I think it's only natural to be curious about which category you belong to.This forum is for people to express their views, if you want to get the administrator to have a seperate section for "members only" that display their identity then i have no problem joining that and telling you exactly what i do. If all the coaching in the clubs is so dire, how do any players ever come through? Seeing as there's no such thing as natural talent either? I've seen good coaches hang up their boots precisely because of the "what would you know about it" school of thought. This is the same as the underage in Offaly, you can have lads that are a passionate as hell about hurling, and will put in hours upon hours of work, but if they arent training and coaching the kids the correct way then the end result is going to be bad. Offalys Future , I didnt ask anybody to identify themselves and you are entitled to express your opinion as much as anybody else and I certainly welcome it .

You seem to have your ear to the ground on a lot of topics.
All i am saying is that people will come on this board and give out left right and centre about the county board and trainers and that teams arent getting the proper coaching. If you go into any pub in the country you will hear the same stuff and plenty of lads will give their version of their solutions and what needs to be done.
I can guarantee that when push come to shove, most of these mightened be seen in the GAA pitch from one week to the next , never help out underage , dont even turn up at an AGM and avoid any work at all costs.
But they still "know" how it should be run. They like to have the ''solutions''. Offalys Future, you have stated on this board about the County board, the underage structures etc. I was just curious as to what your own level of involvement is , if any ?
The reality regarding the underage development and people who help out in clubs are thin on the ground , but anybody who can help certainly would never be turned away.
The commitment at county level and development squad level from the coaches shouldnt be underestimated either. A county manager , like a player could be travelling up and down to training 3 or 4 nights a week. Believe me there are not too many people who would put in this time to the GAA , no matter what the level of compenstation or expenses.
The same for the squads, how many people would give up their weekend or Sunday morning to train a team. The reality is now-a days that not too many want to volunteer any more.
Offalys Future , you also give out about underage coaches saying that they arent good enough - What qualifications do you think they should have? Lets starting hearing your solutions!

The last thing this thread needs is another half page effort, so I'm going to keep it concise.
OF, as to your own personal involvement in any/some hurling clubs, that's for you to disclose or not. For obvious reasons it will influence others perception of you, but the importance of that is really up to yourself.
However if I was to draw an analogy, you're the equivalent of the doctor, who when presented with an ill patient, gives a diagnosis along the lines of the following....
Dr: "You're shocking unwell altogether. You have nearly every sickness going. Your muscles, organs, bloods, everything is rotten...."
Patient: "That's terrible - what should I do?"
Dr: "Your whole lifestyle is wrong. Your diet, working pattern, everything has to change."
Patient: "So what should I do now?"
Dr: "You need to do everything differently. Look at Mr. O'Connor down the road - he's a picture of health - none of that coughing or fatigue with him"
Patient: "So what's to be done - how can I change things?"
Dr: "Everything has to change. All those bad habits have given you several viruses and an acute infection"
Patient: "So what's your prescription?"
Dr: "You're very ill"
Patient files out disconsolately, still none the wiser as to what the doctor has told him to do.....

ha that gave me a good laugh!!
I just here to give my opinion and highlight the problems that are there at the moment.
I just feel that there is no structure to the hurling in the county at present.
Yes there is alot of people giving their time but maybe they need guidance on how to do things correctly.
Its quiet obvious that isnt happening.
Take my comments into consideration or dont thats up to ye but the truth and facts is there for us all to see.
