All county grounds get hard use at this time of year, but Laois are particularly one-eyed when it comes to just piling everything into OMP. You'd often see a round of club championship games where it would be down to host games on Thursday evening, Friday evening, and then either three or four matches Saturday and the same again Sunday. There seems to be a huge aversion to going around the county for matches, which is strange because there are plenty of grounds that are ideal for decent senior club fixtures.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Great result and performance from all involved and no stupid free's either. i was watching Seamie Callanan on the sideline during the first half and he was pulling his hair out with the chance's and striking of the forward's . what ever he said or done at half time as a different team return for the second half. i thought myself it would be a closed game but with the chance's we missed in the first half plus leix last mintue peno it could have been a 20 point win.

also can we now put to bed this Mark Troy isn't the answer in goal's two outstanding save's and his puck out's are good.

Last minute peno was crazy foul, and there were a number in the lead up to halp time.

But was really happy that despite the missed chances in the first half, we kept the scpreboard ticking over with the breeze and without much fuss built a lead as better discipline meant Laois ran out of ideas against the breeze when they couldn't win frees.
They are in a bit of bother, but this was a huge win as Offaly try to build a panel and the system of play that will allow us to retain McCarthy status.

Few casual passes through the hand oand off the stick when under limited pressure will need to be addressed. But it was a very good win and well done again.

Are you saying Offaly GAA or other midlands counties should put floodlights on their county grounds to take the pressure off O’Moore Park? 🤣
95% of the load that would be on O’Moore Park would be from internal Laois club games or county training games.
I’m not but in theory more of something means less of a demand , the issue is at times where the pitch would have got a heavy impact didn’t get time for it to recover because of such a high demand, and if it’s down to the co board to manage that

Five hurling matches on TV this coming weekend. 4 live and 1 deferred.

One of the live games is Offaly vs Antrim on TG4 on Sunday.

Sunday’s game against Leix had many positives. The use of the ball and heads-up hurling was impressive. Offaly won most of the rucks, and players supported each other effectively.

After winning possession, when an Offaly looked up, he had a support runner moving into space. Not every pass stuck, but I don’t mind occasional mistakes being made if we’re playing the right way. And let’s be clear, Offaly are attempting to play the right way. The days of hit it quickly and hope for the best are behind us.
Even though Offaly were down by two points at halftime, they had played most of the hurling and created more scoring chances into the wind.

The isolated inside forwards managed to win the bulk of the balls but faced pressure with their shots. There was a good few wides, but the execution improved after the break.
With the wind, any sort of airborne shot within the posts was carried over and inevitably Offaly pulled away.

Carlow’s win over Waterford softens the annoyance of last week’s draw somewhat. Waterford are going through some mini-turmoil themselves. They’ll bounce back with a win over Leix, but Offaly should be emboldened to go after them in the last round of the league.

Agree on all of the above in terms of our application at the weekend.

One other thing to note over the past couple of games, I have been impressed with our physicality across the board. We have some big strong men, our middle third is mobile and tenacious and we have the likes of Oisin Kelly who is a defenders nightmare once he gets his hands on the ball. The likes of himself, Charlie, David Nally, Screeney et al will only improve as the ground hardens up as we move into Spring. I thought Colin Spain looked right at home in his debut start at senior level - Cathal King and Spain look like a dynamic midfield pairing we can rely on for the next 10 years all going well.

Of course there will be times this season where the experience of hurling at a higher level will see other teams come out on top, but credit where credit is due to our representative players and management teams on the progress made to date.

Great game this evening in the Fitzgibbon Cup with DCU beating reigning champions Mary I.

Donal Shirley the standout player for DCU, with 4 points from midfield.
His midfield partner Colin Spain with a point from play and a crucial late sideline.
Sam Bourke featured at wing back also.

TUS Midwest face MTU Cork tomorrow.

Semis next week with UL and UCC awaiting the winners. Final Saturday week.

Same 15 that started last sunday go again. Antrim a bit like Carlow it's been a while since we had a win over them. was it the Keogh cup in navan a few year's ago. i know they gave us a hammering in the league play off later on in that year in Navan.

if we hurl with the same intensity as last sunday's second half we will hard beaten. i wonder what way will Davie Fitz approach this one with a big leinster championship game coming down the line l'd say he keep his card's closed to his chest in this one. they won last sunday and could target laois for another win to keep them up this year. offaly bye 4 .

Hard to know what Davy fitz will do he’s probably had the same effect that mickey Harte has done with our footballers

Antrim are well due one from us , they didn’t beat us in a prefect style or anything two big lump it into the square and see what happens we defended dreadfully for that

Not that we ever were entirely convincing vs them either

Jesus watching Wexford on RTE, their septic.

We have to mount a serious championship challenge against them, albeit they will be different animals when it comes to championship.

Good first half. Great work rate around half back line/midfield especially

Well done to all.

An impressive performance and a strong upward trajectory.

I think 3 points from the last 3 games could see us gain promotion. 4 points would definitely do it. Which would be a fantastic achievement.
