Rumours abound that Dan Ravenhill is also injured.

A conspiracy theorist might suggest that the Senior management don’t want the U20’s to win the All Ireland again as there’d then be a clamour for the U20 management to take over the Seniors next year.

Injuries are part and parcel of intercounty players. Of all the player's who are injured, is it only one who got injured while been with the seniors? And from what I can gather, Ter guinan did not get injured in the Waterford game.

You can’t separate the two though.

Most injuries are as a result of a muscle being overworked stemming from playing too many high intensity games.

The problem with injuries to young players is very much down to the many multiple teams such players are expected to play for. Each team has its own goals, training schedules and the timing of their respective peaks often overlap.

Are we victims of our own success? We arguably are in that regards. Guys bodies are also built differently, and the loads each player can burden will differ greatly. Some injuries have been unfortunate, some have been underlying, some have been needless.

The important thing is to ensure that these young lads are afforded every opportunity to recover and to not rush back. The last thing we want is to cripple these guys with chronic injuries that could curtail chunks of their careers. But that requires understanding for the remainder of the year.

Such an overlap should cease next season when the core group of this years U20’s have passed to the senior ranks, but there’s still college and club teams to take into account as well. It’s not exclusively an Offaly problem, it’s a wider problem within the GAA. Let’s hope for some positive news on the injury front.

Of late on here opening the thread has been akin to a WWII housewife checking the post to see if their beloved has been struck down in battle.

Ter may not have got injured during the game but you can bet your bottom dollar playing that game led to the injury.

He has a dodgy hamstring which was previously badly injured. He played in a MEANINGLESS game on a sh1t pitch for 61 minutes which would have clearly put a heavy load on his hamstrings. And then boom hamstring goes in next training session.

Either don’t play him in the match or rest him for next training session.

A sh1t show of player load management by all involved.

These management teams talk a great game relating to player management but the reality is vastly different.

Some members of the U20 management should not be let near an Offaly senior hurling management team.

Tipp gave Cork a bit of a dressing down tonight and are probably favourites for Munster again.
