Is Offaly better of getting rid of Senior B with only 6 teams in it and going with two groups in intermediate same as the senior A system.
Best format would be Senior/Intermediate/Junior. No more of this nonsense nomenclature 'senior b'.

8 teams in each grade. Should make all grades much more competitive.
One group in each grade.
All teams play each other thereby guaranteeing seven group games at the height of summer for all teams and ensuring that there are no more 'fallow' weeks as exists under the current structure.

Top 4 in each group to semi finals. First plays fourth in the semi final and second plays third. Bottom team relegated. Teams placed 5,6,7 - season is over.

How would that work? Would the teams in the current junior A move to junior B? So that would be ok but a Senior B is not?

Where are these fallow weeks you speak of?
Offaly championships are played every weekend, alternating between hurling and football.
I don't know where you are pulling these extra weeks out of, unless you would like Offaly teams to withdraw from the Leinster club championships.

A championship's name has no bearing on its strength, the only way the new second tier could be voted through was by calling it Senior B.
Other counties call it premier intermediate, it makes no difference.

To address your points in order:

ONE: Junior can remain Junior A/B/C etc. Its a personal thing of mine against the senior B nomenclature. I think the fact it could only be voted through by calling it this name as opposed to intermediate speaks volumes. Bascially because some clubs didn't want their feelings hurt.

TWO: The second tier would be strengthened by having 8 teams in each tier. The second tier would have teams ranked 9-16th as opposed to current 11th - 16th.

THREE: The fallow weeks are the weeks for a team where group games happen but that team isn't playing. It occurs when there is an odd number of teams in each group.
For example in the last week of the Senior A group games on the 29th/30th August - both Edenderry and Ballycommon did not play. When did fallow week happens in the middle of the group stages - a team will go four weeks during the height of summer without playing a game. This is nonsense.

FOUR: The current format for senior A takes 14 weeks to complete from beginning to end. My format would take 16 weeks. I think it can be done.

FIVE: I would also like to see all games as home and away games, like the inter county championships.

Thanks Offaly Hero, well reasoned and good natured response.

1. I suppose I have no real problem with the naming of Senior B, happens in each county and it is the only way clubs voted in these competitions. My only gripe with the name is that other counties/clubs seem to use it as a stick to beat Offaly teams when playing them in Leinster club comps i.e. 'not fair that our lads as Kilkenny Intermediate champs have to play the Offaly Senior B champions', it's not as if we have had much success in these competitions.
I had a friend from Galway who would always laugh at Offaly having a Senior B and it not being called premier intermediate. Galway has now changed their format this year, there's a premier intermediate hurling competition but no intermediate. :D Again, I'd imagine this was the only way clubs would vote for it.

2. Most counties with 8 teams in a competition seem to opt for 2 groups of 4, with 3 group games, or else criss-cross group stages (with 4 games). I'm not sure if this is because 7 groups games have been tried and didn't work. C'ship could be a bit devalued with so many group games, for instance Tullamore and the stronger sides wouldn't be too fussed about early games, knowing that they will qualify anyway (which is also the case now)!
I also think the push from Croke Park was for championships with 10-12 teams. I'm not sure if this was only from a POV of reducing from larger numbers or how they look at smaller numbers.

3. I get you now, I misunderstood that in your original post, I thought you meant to try push earlier into Summer. I think a lot of clubs view the bye week as a good chance to regroup/get lads fit/let lads go on holiday. Probably very beneficial for a dual club also who are out every week.

4. Everyone wants more games and more competitive games until it actually happens and lads are at higher risk of burnout/injury. This would also negatively impact smaller clubs more than bigger clubs, as the likes of Ballycommon or Clonbullogue may realistically have 18-19 lads to use throughout a senior campaign, while Tullamore can turn to 25-26 lads who are up to the level.

5. I like the home and away games, but neutral games are also a great pull. I think 1 home game is enough for each club. All home/away gets rid of double headers and chances for smaller clubs to play big games on the best pitches (Tullamore, Rath, Birr etc).

i think the problem if we scrapped the senior b championship would be currently you would have a case of the larger clubs second teams who will dominate the the intermediate and Junior championships, look at the recent history , the last 2 junior championship winners Edenderry & Rhode, Tullamore win inter last year, have a great chance to Senior B this year, Ferbane and Edenderry could be joining them in Senior B next year.
The big four are pulling away from all rural clubs in my opinion (i'm not always right), i just think if we reduce it down to just Senior, Intermediate & Junior by removing the senior B we are giving the stronger clubs the chance to win and be at the business end of all adult championships year in year out and the smaller clubs will just fade away, every now and again a rural club or two will rise and i think the pinnacle of a championship for them to win a Senior B championship is a massive achievement, i'm not being disrespectful to rural clubs here, but Bracknagh 2022, Ballycommon 2023 and Clonbullogue 2024 is being realistic about it is the highest grade championship that they will win at this moment, maybe down the road if you get a group of exceptional footballers (5 or 6 county standard lads) within there clubs then you could be looking at the big prize.
i'm not having a pop at the big clubs and i admire the work they put into there underage development and it pays off and they reap the rewards for it.
Instead of scrapping Senior B , would it be possible to look at creating a second teams championship for all clubs currently playing Senior, as they 8 out of 10 senior teams this year had second teams playing as follows 1 @ Sen B, 3 @ Inter and 2 @ Junior A level.
anyway as i've stated this not having a go at any clubs, just the only sharing my opinion.

Was always a big athletic lad that could kick ball to a decent enough club level.

But he now looks County level standard. Im sure Solan might be trying to lure him over to the big ball. But I'd say it would be a minor miracle for him to convince Brian to switch codes.
There's an argument to made that Duignan is currently the best forward we have in both hurling AND football. Have we ever had that situation in the county before?
He was unstoppable in the relegation final last week and I'm not sure even Declan Hogan at his best would have able for his physicality.

While he was exceptional against Bracknagh, I think Bracknagh made no adjustment to try curb his influence at all. How can anyone say that he would be better than Keith O’Neill, Cathal Flynn, Dylan Hyland, Shane Tierney or Jack Bryant? He is very much raw when it comes to football but effective at club level, but unfortunately he wouldn’t do too well on most intercounty full backs.

I will say, he is better than a lot of players who got significant game-time over the last 2 years but that’s beside the point.

Some of the Ferbane/Belmont lads are unquestionably the best dual players in the county, as evidenced by them being in both Senior A semis.

David Nally, Paddy Clancy and Leon Fox are MOTM contenders most weeks in both codes.

Cormac Egan is up there too.

I would agree the Ferbane/Belmont lads are good duals.

But I would argue, the same names brought up for Man of the match every week are by Kevin Corrigan who seems to have a select 5 names from each team he constantly throws out for man of the match no matter who actualluy plays well/poorly.

I do understand your point however.

I'd agree the MOTM given by KC is hit and miss but the aforementioned names would regularly be in the top 5 performers on the pitch week in, week out.

Interested to see how people see this weekends Senior Semi finals going?
For me I think Ferbane to win by 5+ and Tullamore by 4+.
Ferbane have been the most impressive team I have seen so far in the championship. If Shamrocks start the way they did against Clara then Ferbane will have their county final place secured by half time. However, they did recover well and Dunican's place kicking was exceptional. Jack Bryant's availability will be key as he limped off against Clara, I presume he will play but Shamrocks will need him at 100%. Can't see past Ferbane though and I expect them to win.
Tullamore haven't really ignited yet and they will have to this weekend or their season could be over. Cillian Bourke will be a big addition. Rhode will be without a game for 4 weeks so will be interesting to see how that goes. I do think Tullamore will have enough in the legs to get over Rhode but the longer this game is tight the more I could see Rhode potentially sneaking over the line. I think Tullamore might just create a bit of distance between the sides during the second half and hold on to that lead.
