Long John wrote:Yes very bad decision. For starters it really opens up a "transfer market" now. There will be lads living in "flats" all over the place. A club like Clonmore harps are going to struggle to hold onto players in the future and might cease to exist. All young lads growing up in the area are going to have the appeal of a bigger club like Rhode and the Rhode recruiters coaching them at underage level so I think there's no doubt Clonmore are facing alot of problems down the line holiding onto players. Terrible.
I think LS put it perfectly "I sincerely hope this isn't the thin end of the wedge".
holding on to players???? sur they never played for clonmore so clonmore are losing nothing.

Clonmore are possibly losing a steady stream of youngsters from now until they cease to exist, due to the precedent this sets. I've no doubt that Clonmore didn't do this for the McPaddens, they did it because they need to know that they don't get stuck in a situation where anyone half decent can decide to go play for Rhode if they so choose.
I honestly see no reason why this ruling doesn't open the door for Tullamore hurlers to recruit from Ballinamere and their footballers to recruit from Durrow, or for Birr to take hurlers from Carrig and Riverstown, or Gracefield to take footballers from Bracknagh and so on. I hope I'm wrong but the precedent this sets is terrifying.

I can think of a few examples of these already.
If a fella really wants to make the move, he'll find the means to do so.

True, but the issue here is that this transfer essentially endorses the idea that you can make the transfer before ever playing adult football at all.
No solution is perfect but there was a reasonable balance there, that you had to genuinely have moved into the area. I don't think anyone here is pretending that that this flat in Rhode is anything but a means to an end.

what clonmore are loseing is the right to keep players from their own area, what hope have clubs like clonmore if all it takes is an address in another area for a transfer to be granted and while the lads may have never played for clonmore lets not forget without the existence of clonmore they would not have played with offaly never mind rhode.
its clonmores choice where their underage play,im not saying this is going to change but in all honesty why would any club put up with what is after happening here, its open season from now on as far as i can see.
another thing all this throws up (as far as im concerned anyway) is the complete incompetance of the co board chairman,he was called in front of the leinster council and was asked why he had instructed the co board execuitve not to vote when clonmore opposed the orignal decission,he could not or would not answer this,he offered no explaination for it at all.
sometihing i would also like to know, and i direct this at anyone involved with rhode,if the lads were junior footballers at best, would rhode have fought this as much?

One of the most worrying aspects for me is the fact that Offaly Co Board put it to the delegates to vote on. The rules of the association should be the rules, not something that are open to a jury type system.
The Co Board have set a very dangerous precedent in being weak on this transfer. What's to stop any club that wants a player to transfer in forcing the issue to the floor at a meeting now?
This for me is very dangerous water and could speel trrouble!

ye the gates are open now,any player that has a transfer refused in the future will now refer back to this saga and how can the county board stop any lad from transferring now.there will be alot more trouble for the county board in the future with players transferring here ,there and everywhere.

I'm new to this site and was wondering how do i go about getting a transfer to Rhode? I have asked a few people around and it seems to be straight forward but am looking for any further advice.
Thanks

Firstly you may rent a flat up near Kileens!! Then everything will fall into place!

Nobody is digging at the two lads for wanting to. It's the system that allowed them that has caused the huge problem here.

The only reason there is such a big deal being made out of this because it is rhode involved, Can someone from Clonmore tell me how many players did ye have playin last year that arent from clonmore i can definetely name 3 anyway, ye are nicky nacky with your transfers to, and ballyfore recruited around 17 players frome a neighbouring club and there wasnt as much of a fuss over this. Am i right or wrong?

namajaysus,ur right ,there was 3 lads on our team that are not orgainlly from clonmore, BUT any player that transfered to clonmore did so without objection from the club that they were transfering from and also they wernt chased or 'recuited' by anyone involved with or from clonmore harps.
as for the ballyfore transfers, your not doing yourself or your club any favours by saying ballyfore recuited 17 lads, everyone knows that theres only one club in north offaly that recuites players.
now see'n as i answered your question, how about you answer the one i posted earlier?
