This was his first year that could be judged fairly. One year is never enough upon which to make a conclusive judgement upon a manager.
That said, the graph is upward (from an admittedly low base) and the players are young so its only fair to give him more time. The performance last Saturday has instilled an sense of genuine hope and optimism for the future that hasn't been present for a number of years. The manager has to receive some credit for that.
Anyway, the managerial merry go round as has occurred over the past decade with the footballers must be brought to an end.

Constantly changing managers breaks any momentum the team may have. Offaly now have a relatively young team which should get better in the next few years.
I wouldn't go begging the likes of Deehan and Smith to play either. It doesn't send out a good message to others on the panel who are putting in the hard graft 100% of the time. The Offaly jersey shouldn't be something that's cheaply earned.
Id have to agree completely. The playes want him to stay on too. I would give him another year to see can he bring them any further, realistically it wouldnt be any harm. I dont think it will cost us an All-Ireland! And you should never have to beg players to play for the county. Cribben I think has said on numerous occasions about weeding out lads that don't really want it and i think we will see more of that next year(if he stays on).

Without going into the specifics of Tom Cribbin's position, I think that Offaly football generally would do well to get away from the idea of chasing lads to play for the county - I'd be very much in agreement with Bord na Mona man and Offalyman08 in that the key to Offaly football progressing is that teams are built around guys who take pride and satisfaction out of playing for the county, guys for whom playing for the county is worth all the effort that is required. There are probably 100 lads playing football in this county who have played on good minor teams in recent years, and plenty more good club guys who could possibly make the step up as well - we don't need to go chasing after lads who are maybe 10% better but who need to be cajoled along the way.
This particular squad is moulded around that ethos and I think that as a few more guys with the same attitude are brought in and these fellas work over the winter to improve themselves, I think we'll keep moving in the right direction.

That account of the meeting down in Leix shows exactly what a manager shouldn't expose themselves to.
They should never be in the position where they are compelled to respond to the rantings of some of the deranged half-wits that show up at a board meeting.
You'd never know the sort of agendas that are at work.
You'd have fellas who are still bulling that their man was overlooked for the manager's job, or that there should be half a dozen of their clubmen back boning team. Others who think that hurling/football are a waste of time and that the county should concentrate on football/hurling. Some will think that exceeding the bandages and spray budget warrant immediate dismissal.

Why get rid of the manager when the team is showing great signs of improvement, when young players with huge potential are being successfully integrated into the team and when the guts of a settled panel has been achieved?
What struck me most about the performance against Down was that Offaly played with a collective purpose. For that the manager has to take a good deal of credit. They also showed great commitment and motivation. I believe Cribbin deserves praise for helping to instil these characteristics into the players. For the first time ever Offaly gave the qualifers a right go. Cribbin has gathered together players who really want to play for Offaly. Nobody exemplifies this more than Anton Sullivan who was disconsolate after the game having played his heart out.
I think it's unhelpful to be bringing up stuff that happened 10 years ago. Surely all of us would do things differently - and better - now than we did a decade ago!
Its critical that the County Board stops the madness of the last several years, constantly replacing managers, many of whom were showing signs of real progress. What did that achieve only total disruption and going back to square one?
Agree, the attitude in the qualifiers prior to which some yahoos were shouting him down showed some backbone. The towel could have been tossed in, but it wasn't. I'd be happy to see him stay.

Taken from the Hoganstand:
Offaly football manager Tom Cribben will only stay on under his own terms.
In the wake of his team's battling defeat to Down in the Qualifiers, Cribben stated his desire to remain at the helm but added that he will only continue with the full backing of the county executive:
"I've to talk to the County Board and see where they are going.
"I have certain ideas on what has to happen with all these young players and how this thing is going to be developed.
"I have to make sure that this is being backed and it is going my way. If I am going to manage them, I am going to bring them a certain way and I need that 100% backing and they need to buy into that.
"If that is not happening, Tom Cribben won't stay."

Ah jaysus. He refers to himself in the third person? AZOffaly never trusts people who do that.

I was just about to post that the last thing Offaly football needs now is a change of manager.
Then, like AZ, The Bare Biffo is flabbergasted at him referring to himself in the third person, John McIntyre did it too.
Has to cast some doubts, but still, he has to stay.
