Didn't the current Donegal jersey start out as a "changed" strip sometime in the 70's? Their original jersey was the same as Kerry's. Also the Sligo Black jersey is fairly recent creation, and Derry use the predominately Red jersey quite a lot these days, and Wexford have swapped the Purple and Gold from top to bottom loads of times over the past few years.

I have often wondered if the multiplicity of colours in our jersey might make it harder for players to pick a team-mate out from the crowd behind, especially when in the "heat of battle". Maybe someone on here who has had the privilege to play in a stadium where the noise meant you could not hear your team-mates calls, and so you had to rely on looking up and spotting your passes totally on sight; did you think the Offaly jersey made it easier or harder to spot (or no real difference)?

Personally I really like the '82 jersey and would be quite happy to see it used more, especially against any team with green prominent on their own jerseys. And has anyone ever seen the 1980 semi-final jersey since? It was kinda 70's soccer-style and I dont think I've ever seen any other county with anything similar before or since.

Great things were achieved with the yellow-sleeve effort of the 90's but Jaysus it looks awful.

Contrast this with Kerry where they release a jersey like their recent blue away one and wear it at a number of league games (even home ones) to launch it and get an interest going.

They had another one tonight - horrible looking yoke though, tried to incorporate the green and yellow as well. Can't imagine it selling too well myself.

I see the GAA are clamping down on kit clashes. Will this mean Offaly will be be wearing white against Carlow?

Every County should have a change strip, and not be using their provincial colours for kit clashes, it shows a lack of imagination on O'Neills and Azzuri, Gaelic Gear's behalf that they have to wear Provincial Kits. Maybe it's time for Nike and Adidas to enter proceedings.

Get back to the plain tricolour with a white square on the back so the black number can be easily seen. Pure class

What about footballs, I have a picture at home of the 72 team with three footballs in the picture. each one solid grreen, white or gold. Never saw any other county do that, (Apart from Kildare obviously).

Not before time this. By right no part of the kit should clash - socks, togs and jersey should be different.

Methinks the country board are too conservative to do away with the tricolour jersey. If my memory serves me correctly, some reps from the clubs made a complaint about the shirt with the yellow band in the green and the jersey was changed back. There's not a lot you can do with the basic design unfortunately.

They should make a better effort with the associated Offaly gear though. As a laydeee I'd love to wear an Offaly t-shirt or a jacket but they're very masculine looking. I've a friend who hails from Tipperary (well, someone has to come from there) and they've got a better range of stuff covering all age groups and for min and wimmin.

Someone has to come from there certainly, but as an Offaly person - think what admitting you know someone from there might do to your reputation. Regardless of how well the Tipp apparel may fit...the colors are dreadful (naturally).

I dunno if the lads will be getting the same one but the captain of the Offaly ladies footballers, Oonagh Mulligan is on the back page of the Offaly Indo sporting a new jersey. A much improved effort..

Was just on the O'Neills website trying to pick up an Offaly goalkeeper's jersey and I noticed that they are way cheaper than any other county I checked - the normal jersey is too. They've also using the word "Clearance" so maybe that means we're getting a new jersey for 2008?

I dunno. My gut feeling is that since Offaly haven't released a new jersey in years, the goalie's jersey was marketed as an alternative, being reasonably attractive and a fresh option. There are a lot of counties where you don't even see the goalie's jersey for sale.

Myself I'd say it would be just a case of shipping surplus stock of what is essentially a product with a very small market.
