Saw the 20 seconds or so of the dust up prior to the throw-in they showed on the 6-1 news last (Weds) evening.
Why did Brendan Murphy and his opposite number get yellow cards? From the footage, it was Barry Teehan and his opposite number who were digging each other before the cavalry arrived. Murph and his marker barely rubbed off each other, yet Michael Haverty rushed in to separate them!
It's not as if Michael Haverty doesn't deal with conflict resolution on a regular basis in his native county.

Lets be thankful that Haverty issued the two cards or else the spotlight would be on Offaly and Laois because of what happened in Thurles.
The best way to stop a ruck like that is to throw in the bloody ball.
Willie Barrett made the same mistake when Clare played Waterford in 1998.
There was a commotion on the sideline just before he was about to throw in the ball. Like an eejit, he started making for the touchline and Colin Lynch started having a go at Tony Browne. Barrett then had to come back and try and sort it. By the time he threw in the ball Lynch had boiled over and we all know what happened next.
On Sunday Haverty waited ages and kept backing away from the midfielders, obviously they then kept moving forward trying to get the quick snap on the sliotar. He was almost nearer to the sideline than the midfield mark by the time his retreat stopped. The midfielders started jostling as they were trying to re-adjust their field position.

There are those who would say that mistake or otherwise, it's all worked out for the best that Colin Lynch ended up suspended on account of all that messing that day .....Bord na Mona man wrote: Willie Barrett made the same mistake when Clare played Waterford in 1998.
