Re: Minors hurlers 2022
Kildare are playing Mayo in both minor and senior. Senior is Saturday and minor on Sunday. Surely common sense should prevail to play them together.

Re: Minors hurlers 2022
A great fixture. Thurles is, obviously, a great place to hurl. And if Offaly are to improve and emerge, they really should embrace 'Thurles of the Thrills'.
That old Offaly craic of 'we don't like Thurles' is negative and needs to be consigned to the rubbish bin.
Will there be a big Offaly crowd there? If Offaly can bring a crowd to Portlaoise on a Monday evening, I don't see why not. Thurles is roughly 45 minutes from Birr, so probably 75 minutes from Tullamore.
Central Council don't appear to be as welcoming of younger supporters as Leinster Council are, charging juveniles €5 to attend the Tall Chin yoke in Croke Park. but hopefully sense is seen and the busses can roll down the N62.

Clare's record in Thurles at any grade of hurling wouldn't be hectic.

Re: Minors hurlers 2022
Great fixture for Offaly.
With the Clare seniors hurling Wexford the following day (more than likely in Thurles) you would have to think they will bring a small crowd.
If Offaly get the support galvanised on the Socials and in the schools etc we could really outnumber their support in a big way. Be a huge boost for the players.

Re: Minors hurlers 2022
new gaa policy not to put minors on before seniors as big crowd etc might inhibit them. offaly had no bother in portlaoise! seemed too inspire them. .lets hope there be a big crowd in thurles.

Re: Minors hurlers 2022
Two more points on the Friday evening standalone fixture. It'll cause minimal interference with club activity, Saturday, which has blitzes, go games and the like.
And the standalone fixture will probably have a price tag of €15. A Senior quarter-final could well cost €35. For many, that difference will be the deciding factor between attending and not attending. Which is fair enough. By Friday, it'll be almost four weeks since the Leinster final; be great to get back on the road and recreate that wonderful Portlaoise experience.

Were we not outnumbered nearly 3-1 by the Leix crowd?Plain of the Herbs wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 10:06 pm By Friday, it'll be almost four weeks since the Leinster final; be great to get back on the road and recreate that wonderful Portlaoise experience.
How many can we realistically expect on Friday evening between the two teams given the Clare crowd have had a big summer so far with their seniors which is far from over so they may not be as enthused as us.

If there's going to be a big crowd, it'll be an offaly one. Clare minors aren't going to draw a big following. Its not a novelty for them. Where as for offaly this is a big deal. You would hope that clubs make a big effort to get their members attend on Friday. It won't be coming around again anytime soon.

With the Clare seniors playing in Thurles on Saturday you would have to think the Offaly support will greatly outnumber the Clare support.
Ok, we won’t be getting 18,000 at it a la Portlaoise but I would expect a sizeable Offaly contingent to travel. Thurles is incredibly accessible for supporters based in South Offaly. For example a quick google maps search has Semple Stadium 37 minutes from Shinrone GAA grounds and 39 minutes from Coolderry’s pitches.
