Typical Football Supporters

Post by from the horses mouth »

Didnt surprise me seeing them leave with ten minutes to go in the game. they should have left after the football game.
a young team needed the support for the 70 mins not 60.

Fair play for being able to distinguish between football supporters and hurling supporters. I'm from Offaly, football end of the county and I watched every minute of both games. You must actually know every man ,women and child from Offaly at Portlaoise yesterday, your a legend

I too am from a football town and stayed until the end of both games (and got absolutely scorched in the process) You should really consider being a detective in the Gardí. A fella like yourself with so much in depth knowledge of everyone in the county would be invaluable.

well i will put it to you this way, i have watched offaly hurlers for 20 years now and that has never happened, all of a sudden they play a double header with the offaly football team, gv a spirited display and half the offaly support leave.

You've missed a fair few games so. I refuse to leave a game before the death, but if you're trying to tell us that every Offaly hurling supporter was still in Croke Park at 5.35pm as the final whistle went two years ago against the Cats you're on something slightly highly inappropriate for this time of a Monday afternoon. Likewise I can't say there were too many people blocking my exit when I was trudging off the Hill in Tullamore after the game against Limerick last year either.

thats coz there was feck all people at that game.
big difference from 6,000 people and 16,000

60% of support was for offaly at the game yesterday.

next you will say the "official attendance" was 11,000
laois county board made a few quid for themselves as did limerick county board announcing 22,000 in limerick.

Let's get this straight - are you trying to say that Offaly supporters did not leave either of those two games in their droves before the final whistle? I'm genuinely amazed if you think that to be the case.

Four or five years ago we were playin Tyrone in O connor Park and Peter Canavan beat us from one end of the pitch to the other singlehandly.
It was freezin and lashing that day and with ten mins to go there was about fifty Offaly fans left on the Hill, This walking out craic is a disease that is spreading.
These so called fans are like a bunch of lemmings, the minute one lad throws in the towel and heads for home one by one, the rest go tumbling over the cliff too.
Hopefully its a trend that we can change during the next few championship games

There are some people from the hurling end of our county who have this irritating chip on their shoulders and go around shouting to anyone who will listen that supporters from the football end of the county have no respect for our hurling brothers. (What a load of crap).
Just speaking about a certain group of us, who would mostly come from the football strongholds and who follow both senior teams with equal passion, I for one find that this self-pitying bullshit sticks in my throat. We have virtually attended every hurling match, (league or championship,) going back as many years as I can remember and sometimes even on a day when the two of them might clash at different venues, we have sometimes chose to support the hurlers, especially if they are playing away from home and had virtually no support. So please, to all those whingy morans who like to slag off people leaving Portlaoise yesterday with ten minutes to go at the end of the second game, unless that they have solid proof that the people leaving were football supporters, then please shut up.

In my opinion i think this is somebody with very little knowledge of Offaly and saw all the supporters leaving and said they would post this comment to get on peoples nerve, which they have done.
My view is that it was great to see such support for the teams yesterday, especially when the hurlers went in at half time.
I was disappointed though that so many people left close to the end.

How you can distinguish is beyond me, over the years i think some of the "football end" supporters have been very loyal to Offaly Gaa both hurling and football and i am sure many of them were in the stands when the final whistle blew

From the horses mouth - Do you mind me asking (seeing your fairly knowledgeable on the supporters) were all the hurling supporters accounted for at throw in of the football game?
In fairness there will be supporters from both ends of the county that will leave before time when the game is over, that happens. I thought the support was great for the hurlers right up to midway through the second half.

Two years ago very few Offaly supporters were left to hear the final whistle vs. KK. That day it was only hurling so that leads me to believe that the "hurling " supporters headed out early!

Lets not make apartheid-like distinctions between football and hurling supporters.
We should all be first and foremost Offaly supporters.

A beautiful notion of harmony. We could mimic the yanks and have a "Hands across Offaly" ......
