It is indeed Ger Treacy. To be fair it's all very well to say it's due to county board bureaucracy, but clubs tend to be all in favour of supporting Offaly hurling until it means that it might impinge on their own ambitions. St. David's was going to be a reasonably competitive entity, and as such it wasn't welcomed.

Personally I'd be in favour of a B grade at under 21 rather than having a quarter of the county all playing for the one club, but in the absence of that St. David's was probably as good a compromise as existed.

St. David's was set to be an amalgamation of pretty much the entirity of North Offaly for the purposes of fielding competitive underage hurling teams. The idea being that it would be a better setting in which to judge how the likes of Treacy had progressed from their minor days. There were a rake of objections, and as I understand it the new amalgamation never came to pass.

I don't understand why there isn't an adult club in the Daingean parish fielding at any level of adult hurling, and if not, why he isn't just playing with Tullamore or Ballinamere.....

There has been a old rule newly invoked i think which says that if you play football for one club then you can't play hurling for another club that also has a football team.

I forgot about that rule - it has been affecting a lot of players all right.

While there should be some form of North Offaly amalgamation there, it's disappointing he's thrown his hat at it all the same - I would have thought he then would have gone and hurled with Killeigh or Killurin or someone. Understandable in the circumstances, but disappointing nonetheless.
