Sorry 'bout that lads  .
A mans game it is, but I'm a softie when it comes to sports movies, Christ I even sobbed at the end of Jerry Maguire when Rod Tidwell got his "Four years for ten-point-two million dollars" contract with the Cardinals.

I'm away in Montreal, Canada right now, where it's freakin cold (-25C today!).

College Football

Post by Kevin »

College Football has always been the one.

It carries the same passion and carnival atmosphere whether there are 100,000+ under the bright lights and cameras or 5,000 out in the hills of Pennsylvania in a 'lower division'. I've experienced both varieties (games with far less than 5,000 as well actually). Growing up with it helps I suppose, but similar to college basketball there are great games all the time in and out of the limelight allowing anyone to attend and enjoy.

If anyone is out and about in the US in autumn, I'd suggest a big game, but just about ANY game will do.

Offalymanaway mentions that the ND Navy show is back on the schedule for Croke Park. I'd imagine that would be a fun time and a great spectacle. Although it is a long way out, I don't think I'll be there for that one. It would take away resources that would go to an Offaly game primarily.
BUT also because I am already cringing at the sights and sounds...4 30something Irish Americans meet up at Quinn's before the game in their Aran knit sweaters and caps, they brag about their 'authenic' Irish breakfasts (in horrible Irish accents) from some big hotel, one takes out a clay pipe he picked up at the gift shop, but before he heads outside he orders 4 Irish Carbombs (in the loudest possible voice). I can hear it already!

baseball

Post by edenderry »

Baseball for me. Big fan of the football but was at a few games and to be honest unless you are under the influence it is hard to know what is going on. Great to watch on the tv because you can get a replay or two. Baseball ( baring the whole drugs debate ) I find a pure game where tactics and skill come to the fore. Could sit and watch a game all day. No diving, no adds every couple of mins. Real men play the game, even have the odd punch up as well. The pressure the pitcher can come under is like no other in team sport.

that's an interesting choice edenderry.
I remember that nice man Myles dungan explained the american football to us on rte 2 during the 80s, so that's how i picked it up.

On the other hand i've sat through baseball and i've no idea what's going on. haven't a nuts. one lad throws the ball and yer man either swings and misses or hits it and runs about

Baseball's a great sport, very tactical and there is a certain amount of skill needed. The only thing about it is for the lenght of time the game goes on for, theres very little action in it!!

Myles Dungan - now there was a man who could just crop up anywhere on RTE Radio or Television, with no real logic to why.

In fairness - the Arts Show, the Golf, and American football - anyone able
to decipher a trend there? I can't.

He's class. "and if the offensive team are stopped in their own endzone by the defense - the defense scores a safety, worth two points, here's an example"

Always thought he fitted in with the whole Masters background very nicely. I couldn't have seen him being a lineman in college though.

he would probably have gotten into the roster as the lad who holds the snap for the kicker - he would have been good at it too!

It's on, Dolphins vs Giants, October 28th. Honest answers, will we get a good Uibhfhaili.com posse going over? I'm definitely going to this one way or another......

As a fervent Miami Dolphins fan for the last 23 years I'm trying hard to get over to London on Oct 28th at 6 p.m.

It's the Halloween Bank Holiday Weekend.

I'm having trouble registering for tickets - some problem with the website!!

Heard about the Boise State game - incredible trickery and fairytale ending. Must be a Movie in the works!!

The Indianapolis - New England AFC Championship game was wonderful also, what a comeback by Peyton Manning's Colts.

The SuperBowl wasn't in the same class as a game but fair play to the Colts!

Got registered for tickets for the Fish and the Giants finally. No guarantee of getting them, but at least the site allowed me 'register my interest'.

I'm going to either this game, or the 1/4 final of the WC in Cardiff, which will most likely be Ireland v the Blacks. I'd prefer this one I think.

Who else is going?

Already have me tickets for the WC 1/4 final game. Saw that a while back when tickets came out and looked like a right one. Will be the All blacks for sure, just depends on how Ireland do in the group after that.

What date is the NFL game on?
