From an Offaly perspective over the short term we should really be looking at consolidating our position in Group A of this competition. With Wexford hurling seemingly on a downward trajectory a consistent place in the top 4 should be the aim therefore enhancing the standard of oppostition we play in the group stage and progression to the quarter finals and probably semi finals at least on an annual basis.
However as time progresses we will begin to drop down the rankings due to our increasingly worrying underage structures. We don't have a team coming to back up our U20 winning team. While our age profile is good now , time slips by very quickly. A return to our situation in the early 2020's is a distinct possibility in the medium to long term.
As for the championship itself it's nice to see a return to championship knockoout hurling in Leinster. The Group A games might entail a bit of shadow boxing (injured players won't be rushed back etc etc) as all teams qualify but come the knockouts things should really liven up.
