Rumour has it a panel of 22trialists will be picked, where they'll train until the middle of december playing a couple of practice games. After that the full panel will be picked!!

I'm from north Offaly which is predominantly a football area but we have a Junior Hurling team aswell as Senior Football. I play hurling and enjoy it during the summer but during the early months of the year and late into the year I find it difficult to control, handle and even raise a ball on pitches with no grass at times.
I wonder then is this due to my limited hurling ability or do our better players in the county find this aswell. If so I believe the dry ground/fast ball hurlers will not be found during trials and challenge games in Nov/Dec time. ?????
(By the way I'm in my mid thirties and not looking for a call up

tis a fair point, however I do believe this system is one of the fairest I've herad of in a long time considering its run over two months with ample opportunity to impress or give an indication of their committmnet to county training.
Although on the other hand, sometimes you got issues with fitness in trials at this time of year as well, considering some teams are still training etc. whereby it gives advantages to these players over thos who's clubs are finished up to 3months ago!!
Suppose we could argue to and for all day, but i do believe this system wasn't to bad

You'd like to think that the management and selectors would be able to tell from looking at a player whether he had the necessary ability, and look past the current condition he's in. (Within reason of course) I mean in all fairness, a player from Drumcullen or Belmont that hasn't hurled in months couldn't be expected to be at the same level as the Coolderry players.
In saying all that, McIntyre has been around for a good while now, you'd imagine that deep down there aren't too many places really up for grabs. I mean at the end of the day, there is a core of around 15-20 hurlers that have been proven to be the best we have, and while we'd love to think there are some undiscovered diamonds out there, it's probably not the case.
