A wonderful player and leader.
Put Padraig Horan in any Offaly team, in any code and the team gets 10% better.

Pull all the strands together that made Offaly's hurling breakthrough. It couldn't have happen without the absolute iron will of some of the leaders involved, especially Padraig.

Here is the recent Laochra Gael documentary. Padraig was sadly showing the effects of Parkinson's, but his stern determination and sense of humour was in no way diminished.
11 mins in, Joachim references the Tulla massacre. Padraig wiping out the zombie invasion attacking the team and the subsequent home game ban was probably the galvanising event that made Offaly All Ireland champions in 1981.

Just heard that Phil O’Reilly has died this morning. Phil was a member of the 1960/61, Offaly SF team who won a Leinster title in 1960, and contested the 1961 All Ireland Final, losing to Down. There just 4 surviving members of that Offaly team.

May Phil rest in peace. RIP

A very fitting tribute to Phil O'Reilly on the Offaly History blog:

Andy Gallagher RIP.
A great servant for many years, soldiered for Offaly on the field and coached the hurlers into the breakthrough era.
He put in a big shift as an administrator too.
