Irrespective of his playing career, it really is a terrible reappointment and I don’t know how the county board can willingly not seek change. The only hope is that Brian has learned a lot and might change something about his approach, as it is clear it has not worked in the last 2 years. We can’t afford another dreadful year, the teams coming up now need to be competitive or else the senior team won’t get any support in terms of playing personnel.

His first year, fair enough. It was a poor team but had some decent hurlers. However, anyone accepting losing to Laois by 31 points really needs to have a look at themselves. That cannot ever be tolerated and that result needed serious reflection across the board, which didn’t happen.

Last year, that team were by all accounts competitive in their development squad years and would have been ahead of a lot of the teams who went further. They should have been able to get into the A competition, I understand the Westmeath team were strong. But I watched that game and there was cardinal errors on the sideline that day.

Next year’s group are meant to be competitive also, checking the results on Offaly GAA they are playing A competitions. Really needs to be a big improvement if this reappointment occurs.

Who else do you suggest getting?

Leo had the under 20s this year and had an atrocious year as well.

Is it that the hurlers aren't there or these managements were found out.

I always though hughie was the real man and reason behind the under 20 win.

All things been equally and we spoke over the weekend about this and I mean this with great respect to BC.

There is no eternal way he should be reappointed.

His tenure has been brutal, with no signs of improvement or progression.

I would genuinely like to know why or how he’s been awarded more time. Maybe because he’s a friend of Parlon.

Getting good people into these roles is another question. It could well be that the county board had no one with interest in the role or they themselves had little interest in filling the role. I suppose we won’t know.

I have always wondered why those involved in the club scene aren’t involved and quite possibly not approached. And I mean proven coaches. Then there also seems to be paid staff members. I know Nigel Dunne has been involved in minor and 20s teams on the football side, could this be considered? Maybe the staff aren’t there. But the county board needed to be creative with this appointment, rather than stick with something which hasn’t worked.

Look I hear you questioning a tad and appreciate that.

The bits from our lads is he’s very much self centred and only really cares for his ego and what he can get from it.

Also have been told his way of getting his messages to players is very poor and really has his favourites in the groups and is very harsh on some lads in particular.

Very disappointing reappointment.

Brian Carroll unfortunately is egotistical to the extreme and when dealing with young lads thats not a good mix. As previous posters have said players have little good to say about him. It's a pity we don't encourage a coach pathway from Development squad level. It may encourage a higher calibre of academy coach to appear.

Any word on who is getting the u20 appointment

Carroll should have never worked for Offaly gaa again when he choose clickbait and ragebait and taking the money from colm parkinson to abuse young screeney publicly ......as for the laois result whoever you are , and whatever the talent pool available that should have meant the position was untenable after that result ....fair enough if it was against a tipp or cork or kilkenny but not against laois ....

I’m sceptical of bashing him too much, given all he’s done for the county in a playing capacity. But to me, he is a potential selector option and not a manager, but I doubt he’d want to take a step back. His Coolderry tenure wasn’t largely impressive and unfortunately, neither has this tenure. So he should rightfully be judged on these moreso than any other years.

For me, at a minimum the job should have been advertised. Brendan cummins moved on because woodlock wanted u20 job. So CB advertised it and cummins got the hump over having to interview for it.
Tipperary also advertised the minor job.


There are/is people there. There needs to be some pathway for development squad mentors to get the gig. I think it counter productive to bring in a mgt team who dont know the players and how to get the best out of them. Were the current u16 mgt group asked their opinions or offered the gig.
As another poster stated, this group is playing A u16 hurling. First time at this age for 4-5 years.
There has been two terrible years at minor.
What would the reasoning be to keep the current mgt there?
